GEORGE PAUL COLEMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JOHN A. POWERS,
on NEW YORK, N. Y.
PORTABLE PILLOW-SHAW] HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No, 692,238, dated February 4, 1902.
Application filed May 20, 1901.
To all whom) it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE PAUL COLEMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, (whose post-office address is 241 East Eightieth street, in said city,) have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Pillow-Sham Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention consists in the provision of an adjustable rack to be applied to beds of different widths, said rack having spring-clamp jaws adapted to engage the upright posts of a bed and hold the rack in any desired location, means being provided whereby pillowshams may be held to the rack.
The invention will be hereinafter more fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims, as is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved pillow-sham holder as applied to the head-posts of a bedstead. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detailed view of the holder with the parts detached.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a tube having a solid right-angled end piece B,which may be cylindrical or other sha e, and O designates a tube somewhat smaller in diameter than tube A and calculated to telescope snugly within said tube A.
Secured to the outer end of thetube Ois a Serial No. 61i158. (N0 model.)
right-angled solid piece D, which is similar to the end piece B. Securely fastened to each of the ends B and D is a pair of spring-arms E E, each pair being adapted to embrace one of the head-posts of an iron or brass bedstead. The free ends of these spring-arms are outwardly bent, so as to allow the same to spring about the posts. These springs should be made of sufficient strength to securely frictionally engage the posts and hold the shamsupporting device in any location along the length of said posts.
Mounted upon the outer cylindrical tube A is a series of rings F, to which pins or other fastening device may be attached to hold the pillow-sham to said tube.
Owing to the simplicity of the construction of my device the manner of the application of the same to the bedstead will be readily understood, and by the provision of the two tubes, one telescoping snugly within the other, the same may be adjusted so that the springs will fit the posts at different distances apart.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Let= ters Patent, is-
A pillow-sham holder, comprising two tele scoping tubes having right-angled ends, a spring-clamp secured to each of said ends and in alinement therewith, said clamps adapted to slide on the posts of a bedstead and to be held at any height thereon by the flexible arms of the clamps, as set forth.
GEORGE PAUL COLEMAN.
