CHARLES A. HARPER AND JOHN A. PARTRIDGE, OF RAHWAY, NEW JERSEY.
Letters Patent No. 69,207, dated September 24, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN SEED-DROPPER.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that we, CHARLES A. HARPER and Joan A. Pnn'rnlnen, of Rahway, in the county of Union, and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improved Seed-Dropper for attachment to the handles of hoes; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and, exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical section, and
Figure 2 is a top view.
A is a metallic case to contain the grain introduced through the sliding-door A, and'having an opening at A for the escape of the seed. B is an internal cylinder passing through the case A, through which the handle of a hoe is intended to pass. 0 is the discharge pipe, curving downwards from the opening at A to give proper direction to the seed when being deposited. C are the sides of this pipe, between which is placed the wheel D, revolving on the bolt E passing through the sides C. Two or more chambers are out in the periphery of the wheel at I) and D of different sizes, to accommodate the requisite amount of seed desired to be deposited in each hill. F F are loops or eyes, attached to and projecting from the periphery of the wheel to receive the cord G, by drawing on which the wheel may be made to revolve sufficiently to discharge the grain from the chamhers D or D through the pipe C. The eye F, as shown in the drawing, acts also as a stirrer, to prevent the grain from lodging in the opening A H is a spring attached to the bottom of the case, and so curved as to bear down upon the rod I, over which it is hooked, to bring back the chamber under the opening when the cord G is released. I is another rod, to which the spring may be attached when the chamber D is intended to be used.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The case A, when constructed with an internal cylinder, B, and a curved spout, C, acting in combination with the oscillating wheel D, to deposit the grain in the hill, substantially as set forth.
2. The oscillating wheel D, when constructed withn; plurality of chambers D D and so arranged that either chamber may be used, substantially as set forth.
3. In combination with the-wheel D, having'a plurality of chambers, the adjustable spring H, eyes F and F, and rods I and I, substantially as set forth. I
In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.

JOHN A. PARTRIDGE. Witnesses:
ALBERT E. BROWN,
D. C. MARSH.
