BOOT OR LIKE STRETCHING AND MOLDING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 691,076, dated January 14;, 1902. Application filed August 12, 1901. $erial No. 71,772. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EUGENE SALUTRYNSKI, a citizen of the Republic of France, and a resident of Genill, Indreet-Loire, France, have invented an Improvement in Boot or Like Stretching and Molding Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved boot or like stretching and molding device particularly adapted for producing or forming depressions in the parts of boot-uppers in the vicinity of the small toe or of hard skin and corns formed upon the upper portions of the toes.
The construction of my improved device and its mode of operation will be readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved device. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section of the molding cup and die. Fig. 3 is a section of a portion of the bar I) and its guide n. Fig. 4 is an inverted plan of the hook Z.
The device comprises mainly two bars or legs a and b, of which the lower ends 0 and (Z, respectively, are set at right angles to the direction of the main portion with an adequate reinforcement at the angle. The two bars or legs when in their operative position are exactly parallel to each other. The end 0 of the bar Ct of rectangular section is provided with a number of notches to enable the position of the slidere of the die to be regulated. Said die is formed with a head f, shaped as shown, of brass or other suitable material, a set-screw g being fitted in the slider e to secure it in position. The corresponding end of the bar I) is arranged in a similar manner to the end 0, with the difference that the slider 71 is provided at its lower portion with an ellipsoidal cup 1, adapted to be placed over the headf, the slider It being secured in position by a set-screwj. The bars or legs a and b are connected together by a hinge-joint it, as will hereinafter be explained, and they can thus be opened in the manner of dividers, and they are further fitted with a hook Z, which when fastened will secure the two bars or legs parallel to each other at all points. The bar or leg Cb is formed at its upper end with a heel-piece m, designed to receive the hinge 7c. The bar or legh is shorter than the bar a and is fitted at its upper end with a projecting guide or capping piece 12, adapted to slide therein, its motion being'limited by slots 0, in which freely slides a rivetp or the like, secured crosswise in the bar I).
To the upper end of the capping-piece n is fitted a semicircular bow-strap g, which with its two lugs embraces the heel-piece m of the bar or leg 66 and is secured to this latter bya cross-pin 70 to form a hinge and unite the capping-piece n, and consequently the bar or leg I), to the bar or leg to. In the interior of the capping-piece n is fixed a center piece r, of copper or other appropriate material, by means of two screws 8 to insure the proper working of a tightening-screw 25. Finally, about midway down the capping-piece n is fixed another strap 14, adapted to carry the bifurcated hook or pawl Z, pivoted at v and engaging over both sides of the bar or leg a, with apinw fixed crosswise in the bar or leg at.
The device is applied to the boot or the like in the following manner: The book Z being disengaged the bars or legs a and b are moved apart or opened, so as to enable the end of the leg Ct to be introduced in the boot or the like, and b is then closed and locked by means of the hook Z, and the slider h is adjusted with its ellipsoidal cup 2' over the exact portion which it is required to stretch or mold and then fixed by tightening the screw j. The hook t is then again disengaged and the device is removed from the boot, so as to allow of adjusting and fixing the slider e by means of the screw 9 at the corresponding division or notch on the end 0 to that on which is situated the slider h on its end d. The bar or leg a may now be again introduced in the boot, and after the hook Z has been locked'the bar or leg Z? is forced downward by means of the tightening-screw t. From the foregoing description it will be understood that the cup 2 descends very accurately over the head f, and the stretching thus produced at that part of the boot will be all the more pronounced, according to the pressure and duration of the application of the bar 1).
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is- 1. A device of the character described comto cause the die and cup to clamp the boot or shoe between them as set forth.
2. Adevice of the character described comprising in combination two bars or legs having a hinged connection with each other to adapt them to swing toward and from each other as described, a die adjustably mounted on one bar and a cup adjustably mounted on the other bar and adapted to cooperate with the die, one of said bars being adapted to be moved longitudinally relatively to the other bar to cause the die and cup to clamp the boot or shoe between them as set forth.
3. A device of the character described comprising in combination two bars or legs having a hinged connection with each other, a die adjustably mounted on one bar and a cup mounted on the other bar and adapted to co operate with the die, as described, one of said bars being adapted to be moved longitudinally relatively to the other bar to cause the die and cup to clamp the boot or shoe between them, means for locking the bars together to prevent swinging movement after the boot or shoe is clamped between the die and cup, and means for adjusting the movable bar and for locking the same after being adjusted to its clamping position.
