UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES ROGERS, JR., OF GERMANTOVVN, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO VELSBACH LIGHT COMPANY, OE GLOUCESTER CITY, NEW JERSEY, A
CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.v
MEANS FOR TRANSPORTING INCANDESCENT MANTLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 689,519, dated December 24, 1901; Application filed August 14, 1901. vSerial No. 72.020. (No model.)
TOYLZZ whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, CHARLES ROGERS, Jr., a citizen of the United States, and a resident of v Germantown, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Means for Transporting Incandescent Mantles, of which the following is a specification.
Objects of the invention are to simplify Io'the packing, to prevent breakage in transit, and to facilitate the unpacking of Welsbach and other incandescent mantles.
To the ends stated the invention consists in the improvements hereinafter described 1'5 and claimed.
The nature, characteristic features, and scope of the invention will be more clearly understood from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying 2o drawings, forming a part hereof, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a mantle-package embodying features of the invention, the mantle and its support appearing in elevation. `Fig. 2 is a section on line 2 2 of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the locking support or device for centering the mantle.
Referring more particularly to Fig. 3, my
improved centering device is clearly repre-v g sented as comprising'a circular member or disk having a central region or support l and oppositely-disposed marginal wings or tongues 2, formed by notching the disk and providing it with curved slots 3, which join the notched or cut-away portions, as illustrated in the drawings. The disk is preferably of elastic or resilient material, so that by giving the tongues or projections 2 a slight upward inclination they are adapted to re- 40 ceive and firmly hold to place engaging portions of the mantle-carrier. The support 1 is by preference attached to the removable base 4 of a tube, shell, or carton 5, the latter having a detachable cover 6.
The collar a of the mantle-carrier, which includes the socket Z) and the side support c, is provided with transversely-extending spring clips or tangs d, which are formed by cutting out portions of the metal, as clearly shown in Fig. 1. The clips or tangs d are sufficiently long to take under and positively engage the respective tongues or projections 2. This is eected by seating the collar upon the central support 1, with its clips disposed in the cut-away portions of the disk, and then giving it a slight turn.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art towhich the invention appertains that modications may be made in detail without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Hence I do not limit myself to the precise construction and arrangement of parts hereinabove set forth and illustrated in the accompanying drawings; but,
Having thus described the nature and objects of the invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. Means for transporting mantles, comprising a collar constructed to carry the mantle and having oppositely-disposed clips or 7o tangs, and a base or support having resilient marginal tongues, which overlap said tangs.
2. Means for transporting mantles, comprising a suitable inclosing casing having a removable part, a support attached to said removable part and having part-circular marginal projections or tongues, and a collar coni structed to carry the mantle and having tangs which take under said marginal projections.
3. Means for transporting mantles, comprising a suitable inclosing casing having a removable base, a disk attached to the inner face of the latter and having oppositely-disposed marginal tongues, and a collar constructed to carry the mantle and having clips which engage said tongues.
4.. Means for transporting Amantles, cornprising a suitable inclosing casing having a removable base, a disk attached to the inner face of the latter and having part-circular marginaltongues, and a collar constructed to carry the mantle and having clips which engage said tongues.
5. Means for transporting mantles, comprising a suitable inclosing casing having a 95 removable base, a support attached to said In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
