HIFFLETRIEE EVENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 688,984, dated December 17, 1901.
Application filed November 1, 1901. Serial No. 80,832. (No model.) 1
1 this specification.
This invention relates to ,a new and novel improvement in whiflietree-eveners.
The object of my invention is to provide a whiffletree constructed to act as an evenerand being adapted to be secured to pleasure or working vehicles.
In the accompanying drawings I have shown in Figure 1 a top view of one of my whiffletrees secured to a tongue having portions broken away, while Fig. 2 shows an end view disclosing the arrangement of my invention.
To a suitable tongue 1, which upon the rear is provided with the usual reach 2, is a T- shaped holder at, which has its end or head 6 secured to the reach to strengthen the union of the tongue and reach. At the end this holder 4 is perforated, so that the pin 3 may be inserted into the tongue 1.
My whifiletree-evener proper comprises the semicircular member A, which is provided at each end with a suitable singletree 7. EX- tending from this semicircular whiftletree A are two counterpart semicircular holders B B, which are connected to the member A and are spread, so as to encompass the tongue 1 of the member A, extending above and the other below the tongue, as is shown in Fig. 2. The kingbolt 3 used to secure this whiffietree passes through the two members B B to secure the same to the tongue 1, so that there Will be no dipping of the whifiiletree member A.
Secured to the member 4, is a suitable bracket 5, which passes over the whiflietree member A, so that this member A may be rocked from side to side.
It will be noticed that the counterpart mem bers B B do not circle or how outward as far as the end of the member A, the ends of which extend beyond the members 13, as is shown in Fig. 1.
It will be noticed that the member A is provided with the terminals 8 8 and that the holder 4c is provided with the eyelet 9'.
This whiflietree-evener may be made of thin straps of metal, so as to be slightly springy, and, further, be exceedingly light. In hav ing this memberA springy any sudden jerk ing of the horses will be taken by the spring member A.
The device is neat and simple of construction.
Having thus described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent, is
A whiffletree-evener comprising the semi circular member A provided with the terminal eyelets 8 of the T-shaped holder 4 provided with the terminal eyelet 9, of the two counterpart semicircular members B held apart so as to pass above and below a suitable tongue said counterpart members B, B being secured to said holder 4 by means of a suitable king-bolt and the bracket 5 movably holding said whiffietree to the holder 4 as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name to this specificationin the presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT P. BRIGHAM.
