COMBINED TABLE AND BEDSTEAD.

T 0 all whom may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK LESLIE, late of the city of New York, but now of Upper Rahway, in the State of New Jersey, United States of America, artist, have invented what I call the Table-Bedstead or Grand Ottoman, which is based upon and made by transferring the bedstead now in use known as the square or French bedstead into a grand ottoman, with its small ottoman and so as to include a dining-table and other different useful articles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eXact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification.

The said bedstead or grand ottoman is made in the form of a large dining table siX feet long by four feet broad; see this dining table Figure No. l, in the said drawing. The four legs of this table are made movable in the middle'and are fastened by means of a dowel, see A of said Fig. No. l, which is a part of the bottom of the leg and fits into a hole in the top of the leg. The top of the table is divided into three flaps, marked on said drawing B, C, D, t-he two end ones B, D, are on hinges at the two ends; and can be made to stand perpendicular when they form the two ends of the bedstead: See A, A, A, of Fig. No. 9., in the drawing. The center flap C, of said Fig. No. l, is movable and has legs fastened underneath it on hinges and will form a table of itself, see this table with such legs in Fig. No. 3 in the said dra-wing. The bedstead (Fig. 2,) has four side-flaps or hinges, marked respectively on the drawing B, B, B, B, which can be turned up perpendicular and fasten (0,) at the top of the ends of the bedstead. The end (on Fig. No. 9.) has a rail inside on hinges and when used as a bedstead is pulled up to the top of the Hap and turned over and intended for a towel-holder, see D, on said Fig. No. 2. The bottom of the said bedstead is made 'of sacking fastened at the bottom of the bed and at the top fastened upon a roller which has a cog-wheel at the end and this is intended to turn the sacking up tight as occasion may require, see Fig. No. 4: of -the drawing. The small ottoman is two feet high and one foot nine inches across, see it in Figs. Nos. 5, and 6 of the said drawing. The top of it is movable and stuffed and covered with carpet which is the. fcotstool, see A of said Fig. No. 6, and also Fig. No. 7 of said drawing. Underneath is the mahogany top, see it of Fig. No. 6, and (A) of Fig. No. l0; beneath which the chamber utensil is lixed in slides with a spring to keep it in its place, see it B in said Fig. No. 8 also in Fig. No. ll. After the removal of the above tops the wash-hand basin appears, see C, in said Fig. No. S, and in Fig. No. 9. The round frame which holds it is supported upon three sliding legs to raise the basin to the height required, see Fig. No. 9 in the said drawing or when the mahogany top is on, to make a table any height required, see Fig. llo. 10, in the said drawing. Underneath the wash-hand basin, resting upon another frame, is the night-commode, see it at D, in said Fig. No. 8. The lid of which fits into a slide underneath the bottom of the commode, E, of Fig. No. 8. One side of the small ottoman will slide up to get to the space inside which holds the toilet utensils.

Underneath the bottom is fixed a frame across with a hole in the middle to admit a screw, see B of Fig. No. l0 in drawing, which fastens it upon the table'bedstead which then forms the grand ottoman'. The mattress, as seen in said Fig. 2, is in halves and intended to form the cushion outside for the ottoman; and the pillows of the bed are to have covers and lay upon vthe top against the center.

What I claim as my invent-ion and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. The table leaves A A No. 9. in combination with the folding side pieces B, B, B, B, for converting a dining table into a bedstead as described.

2. I claim the middle leaf C of No. l with folding legs A A as seen in No. 3 in the manner and for the purposes described.

3. I also claim the construction and use of the movable towel frame D of No. 2 in combination with the head board as described.

4. I also claim the construction of the apparatus for washing stand and ottoman or support on the table as described.
