I, INVENTOP WJYYVESSES v f X A Attorlze v4 y mm: I
UNITE STATES PATENT FFrcE.
CASPER ZIMMERMAN, OF FALLCREEK, WVISCONSIN.
COOLER.
$PEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 687,101, dated November 19, 1901.
Application filed July 10, 1901. Serial No. 67,782. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CASPER ZIMMERMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fallcreek, in the county of Eau Claire and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coolers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as .Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in cooling apparatus; and it consists in the provision of a cooler made, preferably, of metal and with double walls between which a current of water is allowed to circulate, thus surrounding an inclosed space which may be used for storage purposes, running'water passing through the apparatus, the outer wall being protected with a covering of wood or asbestos or other suitable material for the purpose of keeping the circulating water cool, while the inner wall, of metal, is thin and unprotected, so as to allow the cold from the water to radiate within the cooler.
The invention relates, further, to various details of construction of the cooling apparatus, which will be hereinafter more fully de scribed and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
The invention will be clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which drawings similar letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the views, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my cooler. Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional View through same. Fig. 3 is a sectional detail view of the wall of the cooler and ventilating-pipe.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the outer wall of my improved cooler, which is made, preferably, of metal, and Bis the inner wall,
with space intervening between same and the p This double Wall surrounds the,
outer wall. entire cooler with the exception of the space left for the door and the ventilating-ports A and the top and bottom. ShelvesO may be placed within the cooler, and a door D is provided, which is made up of several thicknesses of material which are not good conductors of heat, so as to prevent heat radiat ing through. Entering the space between the Walls are two pipes F and G, the former of which is to be connected to a supply-pipe, as the water-main in the house, and is provided with a stop-cock E, and the other pipe G is designed as an outlet-pipe, which is also provided with'a cock K, and from this outletpipe it is my purpose to draw water which is usually used for household purposes, so that the water which might become heated and rise to the highest portions of the space between the Walls may be drawn 0d, allowing a fresh supply of cold water to enter.
An outlet-cock M is provided at the lowest part of the cooler, so that the water may be drained off when it-is desired to do so for any purpose.
It is my purpose to cover the outer wall of the cooler with wood, as at N, and about the wooden layer to apply a covering of nonconducting material, as cloth or asbestos B. This outer covering is held in place by means of the angled bands T, which engage over the edges of the cooler and securely hold the covering in place. The upper band has apertures Q, which fit over the supply-pipe and the exit-pipe, and when it is desired to remove the covering this band may be raised,
the band sliding upon the pipes, and the pipes serve to hold the band in place when at its lowest limit when engaging the covering.
The ventilating apertures are provided with removable screen-caps S, which may be removed and replaced with corks, if desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with the cooler, the body portion having two walls, and a covering therefor, the supply and outlet pipes leading to said cooler, the angled band adapted to fit over and hold a covering to the cooler, apertures in said band which fit over said pipes, which serve as guides as the band is raised and lowered, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CASPER ZIMMERMAN. Witnesses:
