PNEUMATlC-CONVEYER VALVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 683,666, dated October 1, 1901.

Be it known that I, GRANT S. SHANNON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston,in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pneumatic-Oonveyer Valves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to pneumatic-conveyer valves for gin-feeders.
The object of my invention is to providea valve which will form between several independent intake or outlet ports and the main convcyer-pipe a continuous direct pipe-line with minimum bend or curve and free from internal switch-plates or other means which obstruct or reduce the capacity of the valve.
It is also my object to provide a valve which will serve as both a receiving medium from several sources of supply and also as a delivery medium to separate depositoriesthat is, my valve will serve in a pneumatic ginfeeder as both a receiving medium to connect the main convcyer-pipe directly with a loaded wagon or to a warehouse stored with seed-cotton or as a discharge medium after the seed-cotton is ginned to connect the main conveyer-pipe with a seed-cotton bin and cotton-seed bin.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a top plan view showing the valve-cage in full lines in one position and the valve in dotted lines when shifted. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal ver tical section of the valve and cage, and Fig. 3 is a detail View.
Reference being had to the drawings, A denotes a casting containing ports a a. a a denote collars formed integral with said casting projecting outwardly around said ports and are designed to connect the conveyorpipes leading from the warehouse or other depository to the valve.
0 O O 0 denote rods connecting the casting A with a casting D. The ends of said rods are screw-threaded and pass through perforations in the lugs a and d, formed on Serial No. 57,955. (No model.)

The castings A and D and rods 0 form together the valve cage. The casting D is formed with a central port having a collar d projecting at each side formed integral with the casting. The outer or free end of said collar is designed to connect the main conveyorpipe, (not shown,) leading to the gin-room, while the inner end enters the Valve. The valve consists of a pipe E, inclosed in said cage between said castings A and D,and is clamped in position by the nuts 0 on the connectingrods. The inner end of said pipe is mounted pivotally on the casting D, said end fitting over the collar cl and provided with a flange 6, which bears and turns freely on the inner face of this casting. E denotes an oblique offset in the pipe E, which causes the outer end of the pipe as its position is shifted to move in the arc of a circle described from its inner pivotedfend. 6 denotes a handle for operating said valve.
F denotes a casting having a collar formed therein, which fits around and inside of the walls of the outer end of the pipe E and is adapted to slide over the inner face of the casting A in an arc of a circle described from its pivotal connection.
f denotes a threaded bolt to which the collar F is pivoted. Said bolt passes through said collar and through the casting A at a point in the axial plane of the port in the casting D. f denotes an adjusting-nut for said collar.
I have shown the casting A with two ports; but it is evident that additional ports may be added by increasing the width of the casting and adding ports in the arc.
To change the source of supply from a wagon-load of seed-cotton to the seed-cotton stored in a warehouse, the outer end of the pipe E is shifted by hand or by automatic de vices from one port in the casting A to the other. After the seed-cotton thusdirected to the gin-room is ginned the seed can likewise be directed to the warehouse or to a wagon. In either event my valve serves as a medium for forming with the main conveyerpipe a continuous pipe-line with but a minimum deviation from a straight line, of pipe and avoids the use of switch-plates or other impediment to the free passage of goods through the valve.
My purpose in connecting the castings A and D by adjustable connecting-rods is to insure as near as possible a snug joint between the collar F and the ports in the casting A.
Having shown and described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a pneumatic valve for conveyer-pipes, the combination with the pivoted valve-pipe having an offset therein, of the valve-cage having castings at each end adj ustably connected by tie-rods one of said castings serving as a union for the pivoted connection of said valve-pipe to the main conveyer-pipe while the other casting is provided with aseries of ports which serve as unions for branch conveyer-pipes.
2. In a pneumatic conveyer, the combination with the main conveyer-pipe and a valvepipe pivotally connected thereto and having an oliset therein, of the valve-cage having castings at each end, means for connecting .said castings and clamping the valve-pipe
