WILLIAM \VOLF KRONl-IEIM, OF HANOVER, GERMANY.
GRATER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 683,299, dated September 24, 1901.
Application filed May 21,1901.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM WOLF KRON- HEIM, manufacturer, of No. 11 Cellerstrasse, Hanover, in the German Empire, have invented new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Grating or Disintegrating Machines, of which the following is a statement.
The present invention relates to improved grating or disintegrating machines for use in connection with bread, potatoes, vegetables of any kind, and like substances.
The special objects of my invention are to simplify and cheapen the construction and to render more efficient, serviceable, and durable in operation devices of the kind referred to.
With these ends in View the invention consists in the novel combination, arrangement, and adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described, and set out in the appended claims.
In the annexed drawings, Figure 1 shows a plan view of the machine constructed according to my present invention. Fig. 2 represents aside elevation. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on line A B of Fig. 1.
My improved machine is constructed in such a manner that the disintegrator receives a reciprocating motion and that the receptacle containing the substances to be grated can be adjusted on the sieve according to desire. The disintegrator is situate beneaththe sub stance to be treated, which latter is pressed ifn a convenient way against the grating-surace.
I will now proceed to describe my invention more fully in connection with the accompanying drawings.
The frame a is provided with ledges (1 along its longitudinal side edges. Said ledges serve as guides for the receptacle 1), which is destined to receive the substance or material to be grated. For this purpose said receptacle 1) is provided with corresponding grooves c. The inner faces of the longitudinal sides of the frame a are fitted with guide-grooves for the ledges g h, which are provided in connection with the longitudinal sides of the frame t' of the grating instrument It. One of the transverse bars of this frame 7 is attached to a connecting-rod Z, the other extremity of which connecting-rod is coupled to the Serial No. 61,327. (No model.)
cranked axle m. This axle is suitably journaled in bearings in the frame a and is driven by means of the hand-crank n. The exter nal side walls of the receptacle 1) are provided with vertical guide-slots o, in which, on the one hand, an extension 19 of the heavy lid 1', and, on the other hand, a screwq are adapted to move. Said screw q fits into a suitable bore of the heavy lid r. On the extension 19 and on the screw q rest longitudinal bars 3 t, which run parallel to the longitudinal sides of the frame a and which are supported by vertical bolts u o w 83. These vertical bolts are located at the extremities of the longitudinal bars 8 t and are provided with enlargements at their upper ends, which rest on the aforesaid longitudinal bars 8 15. They are also preferably provided with splines, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, to hold them against rotation without interfering with their vertical movements. The lower portions of the vertical bolts to o w 00 pass through suitable holes in lateral extensions 2 of the frame a, spiral springs y being placed between said extensions and the head portion or its equivalent at the lower end of the bolts.
My improved apparatus as constructed in the manner hereinbefore set out operates in the following manner: After removing the screw g from the lid 0' said lid r can be separated from the receptacle 6 by turning it up, and the receptacle can now be filled with the substance or material to be grated. This being elfected, the lid 0 is turned down again and the screw q screwed into same. The ma terial to be treated is firmly pressed against the disintegrating-surface by the agency of the lid 0, the longitudinal bars st, in connection with the vertical bolts u o w 00, and the spiral springs y. Said spiral springs con stantly tend to pull downwardly the longitu dinal bars s t, which latter act on the lateral arm p and the screw q, and in consequence on the lid 1". By turning the hand-crank n and the cranked axle m the disintegrator 70' will be reciprocated in the frame ctby the in termediary of the connecting-rod Z, which is attached to the cranked axle m, on the one hand, and to the end of the disintegrator k, on the other hand. The reciprocating motion feel of the disintegrator 7t will obviously grate the material which is pressed against its working surface by the lid 0" in connection with its accessory parts, as hereinbefore described. The grated substance precipitates through the disintegrator 7c and is received in a suitable vessel or tray placed beneath the machine. I
I wish it to be distinctly understood thatl do not limit myself to the exact construction of the parts, as shown and described, seeing that many modifications may be carried out without departing from the scope of my invention.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An improved grating-machine comprising in combination a suitable base-frame a, a disintegrator 7c adapted to be reciprocated in the aforesaid frame a, means for imparting motion to said disintegrator, consisting in a cranked axle m and a connecting-rod Z between said cranked axle m and the disintegrator k, a receptacle 1) longitudinally movable on the frame a; vertical slots 0 in the side walls of the receptacle 1), a lid fitting the interior of said receptacle and provided with a lateral extension to move in and project from one of the vertical slots 0, a screw q adapted to move in the second slot 0 and to fit into a suitable hole in the lid 1, and means for exerting pressure on the extension p and screw q, in order to force the substance or material in the receptacle 1) against the grating-surface, substantially as described and shown.
2. An improved grating-machine comprisingin combination a suitable base-frame a, a disintegrator 76 adapted to be reciprocated in the aforesaid frame a, means for imparting motion to said disintegrator, consisting in a cranked axle m and a connecting-rod Z between said cranked axle m and the disintegrator 7a, a receptacle b longitudinally movable and adjustable on the frame a; vertical slots 0 in the side walls of the receptacle 1), a lid fitting the interior of said receptacle and provided with a lateral extension to move in and project from one of the lateral slots 0, a screw q adapted to move in the second slot 0 and to fit into a suitable hole in the lid '1", and means for exerting pressure on the extension 19 and screw q, in order to force the substance or material in the receptacle 1) against the grating-surface, said means consisting in longitudinal bars .9, tin connection with the vertical bolts to, v, w, 00 which latter are constantly pulled downwardly by the agency of spiral springs y, suitably provided in connection with the frame a and the extremity of the vertical bolts, substantially as described and shown.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM WOLF KRONIIEIM.
