IMPROVEMENT IN GORN-HUSKER.
55kt fitlgetnlt ttftttth to in tlgese Eat tars 33mm animating and at the same TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: 7
Be it known that I. DANIEL WILLIAMS, of Snginuw City, in the county of Ssgina\v,- nnd StnteJof Michigan,
have invented a new and useful Improvement in Corn-Husker; and do hereby declure that the following is a full,
clear, end exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled-in the art to muke nnd use the some, reference being hud to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification. 7
The figure is in side view of my improved muchine.
My invention has for its object to furnish a, simple, cheap, and effective machine for use in hnslting corn; and it consists in the combination of thecutting and notched plates with the pivotedbar end stationary frameof the machine; the whole being constructed and arranged as hereinafter more fully described. i
A isa. horizontal ben'm supported upon three or more legs B ofconvenient height. Upon one end of the beam A is formed the seat a for the operator. Through the middle pztrt of the beam A is formed a longitudinal slot for the passage of the bar 0. The bar C is pivoted in 'a. siot in the inclined beam D, the lower end'of which is secured to the beam A, and-the upper end of which is secured: to the block E, which, in turn, is secured to the beam A, so as to form a. firm and stable frame. To the lower end of the pivoted bar C-is attachedthe treadle F, so that the operator may work the machine with his foot. To the upper end of the pivoted bar 0 is uttached a plate, G, projecting downward and outward, as shownin the drawing, the lower or cutting edge of which is made curved or circular, as shown. H is a plate, upon the lower edge of which is formed n flange by means of which it is secured to the inclined benm D, or the said plate may be secured to the said beam in anyother convenient and substentinl manner. Upon the upper edge of the plate H is formed a circular notch, h, corresponding in form to the form of the cutting edge of the plate G, as shown in the drawing; I is a spring, the lower end of which is secured to the inclined beam D, and its upper end is connected to the upper end of the pivoted bur C by a. cord, J, or its equivalent, for the purpose of drawing the upper end of said ban back after making acut. i
In using the machine, the operator sits uponthe sesit a, with'his foot upon the treadle F. He thenfplaces the base of the ear in the notch it in such a position that the descent of the cutting-plate-G will sever the ear from the stalk, so that the said ear will slip or be readily and quickly removed from the enveloping husks.
"I claim as new, and desire to'secure by Letters P utenti The construction and arrangement of the cutting-plateG upon the pivoted bnr G, notched and flanged plate H upon the interior stationary frame D E A, constructed and operated'as herein shown and described.
DANIEL WILLIAMS.
