UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LAKE E. FUGATE, OF SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
PISTOL-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part 0f Letters Patent NO. 681,392, dated August 27, 1901.
Application iiled February 4, 1901. Serial No. 45,992. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern.:
Be it known that I, LAKE E.'FUGATE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pistol-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This inventionl relates to pistols; and, broadly speaking, it consists in a projecting stud permanently secured to the pistol-stock and a hanger formed from a plate of metal which is adapted to be hooked upon a persons clothing, as at the waistband of the trousers or upon a belt, and having a slot for engaging with the said stud, by which the pistol is hung.
My invention is particularly intended for use with streeteclothes, Where the pistol isto be carried beneath the coat, close to thepersons body, and readily disengaged from the hanger, as hereinafter more fully set forth.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of the hanger with a pistol, which is indicated in dotted lines, attached thereto. Fig. 2 is an end view of the samer with the pistol-supporting stud in engagement.- Figs. 3' and 4 are perspective views of t-he hanger from the back and front, respectively. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal View of the supporting-stud.
In the said drawings, l represents a stud, which is an extension of the pistol hammerbutt pin 2.
3 is the hanger attachment, formed simply from a plate of metal folded twice, once inwardly to form a hook 4 to embrace the trousers-band or other part of the clothing to which it is hung'and preferably having a vertical slot 5 formed in the rear leaf to engage over a button or suspender-strap to prevent the dislodgement of the hanger. The other fold 6 is bent outwardly and having a horizontal or approximately horizontal slot 7 from the forward edge of the leaf and terminating in a saddle or hook-shaped end l0, in which the stud l is lodged when the pistol is carried by the hanger. The neck of the stud l, between the collars 8 8 formed thereon, is admitted to the saddle lO, and the said collars bear against the surfaces of the plate adjacent to the slot to retain the said stud perpendicular to the face thereof.
9 is a depression in the middle leaf 1l directly in the rear of the slot 7 to provide a lead to guide the collar 8 into the aforesaid slot '7.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-l l Y l. In a device of the character described, in combination with a pistol having a stud projecting from the stock thereof, o f a hanger for attaching the pistol to a persons clothing' consisting of a plate of metal folded twice, once inward ly to form a suspension-hook, and once outwardly with a slot therein having a hookshaped end to receive and support the said stud, substantially as and for the purposes described;
2. In a holder of the character described,
lin combination with a pistol, of suspending devices, which devices comprise a stud extension to the pistol hammer-butt pin formed with two collars thereon,- anda hanger for attaching the pistol to a persons clothing consisting of a plate of metal folded to form a suspension-hook, another folded at right angles to' the aforementioned fold with a slot having a hook-shaped end for the reception of the said stud, and a depression in the main portion of the plate to the rear of and adjacent to the mouth of the said slot, substantially as and for the purposes described. v
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LAKE E. FUGATE.
