"NITED STATES PATENT Frat JOSEF HENRIK HALLBERG, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO GENERAL INCANDESCENT ARC LIGHT COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
ELECTRIC-ARC LAM P.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 6"7'8,4 dated J v 1901 Appliationfiledllovember13,1900- SerlalNo. ss szs. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J OSEF HENRIK HALL- BERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric-Arc Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to electric-arc lamps of the type known as inclosed-arc lamps; and it consists in various details of construction, which will be described in the specification and specified in the claim.
.The object of my invention is to simplify and improve the construction of such lamps and decrease their cost.
The accompanying drawing will serve to illustrate my invention, and in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
The figure is a vertical section through the upper portion of the lamp, with the clutch mechanism shown in elevation.
In the drawing, A indicates the top plate or cover of the lamp. Depending from this cover is a supporting-tube B. Secured to the tube B near its upper end is a bracket 0. Connected to the lower end of this bracket is a magnet D. Surrounding the tube B is a tubular sleeve E, and surrounding this sleeve is a second sleeve or armature F. These two sleeves form armatures, and I may use but a single sleeve. Connected to the sleeve E is a dash-pot Gr, which moves over a piston H, pivotally secured to the top of the magnet D. I represents clutch mechanism connected to the bottom of the armature F.
In the operation of the lamp the sleeves E and F are moved vertically and their motion transmitted to the clutch I and dampened by the dash-pot G.
Having thus described my invention, I c1ai1n I In an arc-lamp, in combination with the supporting-tube B, a bracket secured to the tube, a magnet carried by the bracket, a movable sleeve located within the magnet and connected at its upper end to a dash-pot, a dash-pot piston pivotally mounted on the top of the magnet, a second sleeve or armature surrounding the supporting-tube,and a clutch mechanism connected to the second sleeve.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
