Description

Letters Patent No. 67,728, dated August 13, 1867.
IMPROVED BRICK MAGHINB.
@Ligt ,Stimuli einen tu tu tiges: ttters zztmt mit mating pitt rf tige time. l
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, J. W. CRARY, of Pensacola, in the county of Eseambia, and State of Florida, have invented a new and improved Brick Machine; and that the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, hereinafter referred to, forms a full and exact specication of the same, wherein I have set forth the nature and principles of1ny said improvements, by which my invention may be distinguished. from all others 0f a similar class, together with such parts as I claim and desire to have secured to me by Letters Patent. I'
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements onra brick machine, for which Letters Patent were granted to me bearing date August 1T, 1858. l
The invention consists in a modification of the construction of the framing of the machine, as hereinafter fully shown and-described, whereby the device is rendered 4much more compact than hitherto, undV a more favorable arrangement of theworking parts obtained. The invention also consists in a novel arrangement for crushing or pulverizing the clay, consisting of two rollers, operating with dilerent degrees of speed, whereby a combined crushing and grinding action is obtained, which renders the opeiaton of the rollers very efficient. In the accompanying sheet of druwings-- Figure 1 is a sido view of my invention, the pulvcrizing or crushing device being shown in section.
Figure 2, a. transverse vertical section of the same, taken in the line x a, iig. 1.
"Figure, a vertical section of a portion of the same, taken in the line y y, iig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
The frame A ofthe machine is constructed Vwith a semicircnlar top or upper part, a, as shown clearly in iig. 1; said part a conforming to the shape of the moulding-wheel B, which is substantially the same as shown and described in the original Letters Patent. '.lhc moulding-wheel is provided with a series of moulds, b, which open towards a common centre, but have their sides straight or at right angles with the inner .face of the plungers C,'which form the bottoms of the moulds. -Thc same arrangement of pressing-roller D is employed as in the original machine, and infact the principle of the whole moulding und pressing operation is substantially the same as that in the original machine, and therefore (locs not require a special description. The original machine, however, was exceedingly cumbersome; a rectangular frame being employed, and the construction and arrangement of parts such that the endless discharging-heit could not be carried or extended through the moulding-whcel.
By my improvementV it will be seen, by referring to iig. 2, that the endless belt E passes entirely through the moulding-wheel B, and with the moulding-wlieel B and elevators F, may be driven by a very conv pact arrangement of gearing. 'lhe crushing or vpulvcrizing attachment is composed of two rollers G G', of equal diameter, over which a hopper, II, is placed to receive the clay, and conduct it to the rollers. These rollers are connected at one end by gears I I, one of which, I, is smaller that the other, I', so that one roller will have a higher rate of speed than the other. Owing to this difference of spoed between the two rollers` a combined crushing and grinding action is obtained which is very efficient in pulverizing the clay. By an equal rotating movement of the two rollers, a crushing action would only be obtained, but by a differential movement a. combined crushing and grinding action is obtained. The pulver-ized clay is conveyed by an inclined spout, J, to the elevators F, which conduct the clay as usual to the moulding-wheel.
-Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- Constructing the frame A. with a semicircular top, a, when said frame is used in connection with a moulding- Wheel, B, arranged concentric with the upper semicircular part of the frame, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
J. W. CRARY.
