VALVE ATTACH lVl ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Eatent No. 676,927, dated June 25, 1901.
Application filed October 26, 1900. Serial No. 34,519. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that 1, AUGUST THIEL, a sub ject of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of Magdeburg-Sudenburg, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful 1m provements in Valve Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention consists of a new and useful attachment for valves by means of which the valve can be more easily opened.
In the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters of reference refer throughout to similar parts, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional elevation of a valve embracing my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan View, the handwheel being omitted. Fig. 3 illustrates the improved valve attachment.
From the drawings it will be seen that upon the end of the valve-body a a longitudinallymovable hollow tube b is mounted, one end of which tube carries a plate d, adapted to rest tightly against the end of valve a by means of spring g, held in properposition by a nut h and locking-nut h. Secured on the lower end of spindle c is a disk, which is connected to said plate cl by a pitman f. The end of said tube 1) adjacent to plate d is provided with two or any desired number of openings 0. The valve-seat is composed of two duplicate cheeks i 2', provided with sui t able holes 7t 70 for screws or bolts. Surrounding said spindle is a collar 0, with indicatingmarks formed thereon, while an indicator 1), clamped on said spindle, shows exactly the position of the attachment-tube.
In assembling the parts the attachment is mounted in the valve proper, the valve-seat bolted thereabout, and the entire device fastened inside the pipe, as at Z l.
By turning the spindle it is obvious that the disk is first revolved and the tube 6 drawn out, so that the steam or fluid passes through the openings 6 0, thereby relieving the pressure upon the valve-body a and permitting the same to be easily opened.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
1. A new and useful valve attachment consisting of a hollow tube provided with openings therein and adapted when at rest to so lie in the end of the valve-body that the said openings are closed and means for first actuating said tube when opening said valve and freeing said openings so that the pressure is removed from said valve, substantially as de scribed.
2. A new and useful valve attachment for the purpose of relieving the valve-body of pressure previous to operating the same and consisting of a hollow tube provided with openings therein, a plate on one end, a nut and a locking-nut on the other end, a spring adjacent to said nut, a spindle, a disk thereon, a pitman connecting said disk and plate and an indicator, substantially combined as described.
3. In a new and useful valve attachment the combination of a valvebody, a movable tube provided with openings mounted in said body, a spindle, means connecting said spindle and tube, a split valve seat, a collar about said spindle with indicating-marks formed thereon and an indicator fastened on said spindle, substantially as described.
AUGUST THIEL.
