SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 672,489, dated April 23, 1901.

To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that we, EDWIN J. MCALLIS- TER, ALMOND. PAGE, and LOUIS C. WERNER, citizens of the United States, and residents 5 Of Newark, in the county of Essex, State ofv New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supporting Devices for Electric Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
1o Our invention is an improvement in the apparatus by means of which electric lamps are employed for signs, letters, figures, and designs, such as that shown, described, and claimed in the Leiters Patent issued to W.
F. Brewster December l1, 1900, No. 653,532.
The Object of our invention is to provide a cheap and eective link for adjustably uniting a series of lamp-receptacles so that the` relative position of the lamps may be changed 2o or varied to represent any desired form or design. We provide a strap of wrought-iron in the forni of the letter S, the curved terminals being of a size to encircle a lamp socket or receptacle. The ends are carried back and bolted together and to the strap at or near its center.
The accompanying drawings illustrate our invention.
Figure l is a plan View of our link connection; Fig. 2, a side view of same; Fig. 3, a series of lamps, sockets, and receptacles united by links; Fig. 4, a plan view of same.
In Fig. l is shown a link made of Wroughtiron in the form of a strap 50, with its ends 53 54 bent or turned upon itself to form circles 5l 52, having a diameter substantially equal to the diameter of a socket or receptacle like s. The free ends 53 54 of this strap are perforated and screw-threaded, and there is a screwethreaded perforation 56 at or near the center of the strap. A screw 55 firmly unites the ends of the strap to the center thereof and serves to grip the socket or receptacle s within the circles 5l or 52. In Figs. 3 and 4 We show a series of lamps 20, having weatheihguards g, composed of sheet metal. The lamps 20 are connected electrically by the flexible conductor c. The sockets s are in two sections united by a bolt 27, (shown in Fig. et, where the under side of a series of qo lamps are shown,) thev lamps being adj ustably connected together by links, as described. By loosening the screw 55 the grip of the straplink upon pairs of lamps like 20 is released, and the relative position of the series of lamps may be changed to represent any letter, ligure, or design which it may be desired to exhibit. r
' What we claim, and desire to secure by Iletters Patent, is- 6o l. A series of lamp sockets or receptacles adjustably connected by straps or bands of iron, each strap or band being looped at each end, the free ends being returned and bolted or pinned together and to the strap or band, substantially as described.
2. A connecting device for adjustably uniting lamp receptacles or sockets consisting of an iron band or strap having its Opposite ends `turned back in circular form, both ends 7o being fixed together and to an intermediate point or part of the strap, substantially as de scribed.
3. The combination of a pair of lamp sockets or receptacles, a link, adjustably and mechanically uniting said lamp-sockets and a single clamping device for both.
4E. The combination of a plurality of lamp sockets or receptacles adj ustably connected by straps or bands, each strap or band being 8o looped at each end, said ends being returned and fastened to the strap or band to provide clasps for the sockets or receptacles.
