EMIL-OPPENHAUSER, OF CRAIOVA, ROUMANIA.
GARMENT-STRETCHER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 670.244, dated March 19, 1901.
Application filed December 21, 1900. Serial No. 40,670. (No model.)
To (ti/1 70. mm it ntcty concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL OPPENHAUSER, a subject of the King of Roumania, residing at Craiova, in the Kingdom of Rou mania, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Apparatus for Stretching Garments, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention consists of a device for drying cleaned or dyed clothes in a stretched condition, corresponding as nearly as possible to the form of the body, and thus obviating the necessity of ironing the same.
In order to render the present specification easily intelligible, reference is bad to the accompanyingdrawings,in which similarletters of reference denote similar parts throughout the several views.
Figure l is a front, Fig. 2 a side, and Fig. 3 a rear elevation of one form of garmentstretcher embodying the invention. Fig. 4 is a plan of the same. Figs. 5, 6, and 7 are details hereinafter referred to.
The stand consists of the uprights c and b and the base-plate a, the shoulder-pieces d, the arm-stretchers g, the breast-block e, and the laterally-disposed stretchers f f, which take the form of the waist and hips. All these parts are provided with adjustable members, so that the garment after it has been placed on the same may be readily stretched and held in a stretched position until it is properly dried.
In order to adjust the position of the shoulder part-s (Z, a threaded spindlet' is employed, which engages a nut 2", to which are hinged levers t one of each of which is pivoted to the outer end of each shoulder-block. Obviously when the spindlet' is turned the outer ends of the said shoulder-blocks will be raised or lowered, whereby the same may be made to properly fill out and stretch the garment hanging thereon. The breast-block e is mounted on a horizontal spindle 7c, fitted in the upright 0, and the said block may thus be adjusted to and from the back I) by turning the said spindle la. The arm-stretchers consist of the two stretcher-bars 6, connected up by means of pivoted levers g to nuts 9 adapted to be operated by turning the screwthreaded spindle mon which the said nuts are threaded, and thus to push the said bars g apart or draw them together, as may be required. At the bottom of the stand, on the base-plate a, an expansible rim h is provided, having outwardly-turned pins, Fig. 4, said rim being of several parts connected up by means of pins and slots 71 and advantageously in the form of a triangle with rounded corners. The expansion may be effected by means of screwthreaded spindles or set-screws h arranged at each corner. The arm-stretchers are advantageously ball-jointed to the upper part of the stand, so that they may be moved in any required direction.
In use the garment is first placed on the stand, with the arm-stretchers one in each sleeve. The front of the garment is held together by means of spring-clamps s, as illustrated in Fig. 6, and which may be hung in position by means of chains or rings engaging the horizontally-projectingpins of the upright 0, against which the said garment is stretched. The lower edge of the garment is then attached to the pins of the rim h and the latter adjusted to stretch the same outwardly and also to exercise a pull on the garment, the said rim being vertically adjustable on the stand. The sleeve-stretchers are then expanded by means of the spindles n and the shoulder-blocks and the breast-block adjusted so as to evenly stretch the garment.
I claim as my invention- 1. A stand for stretching garments while they are drying, consisting of a pair of adjustable shoulder-blocks an adjustable breastblock, side parts adjustable to and from each other, adjustable sleeve-stretchers hinged at either side and uprights to support the said parts in the manner and for the purpose substan tially as described.
2. A stand for stretching garments while they are drying consisting of a base-plate having front and rear uprights thereon, a pair of adjustable shoulder-blocks on said rear upright, a horizontally-adjustable breast-block mounted on the front upright, sleeve-stretchers having each two adjustable members and hinged to the side of the stand at the shoulders, side parts having the form of the body and adjustable to and from each other and In witness whereof I have hereunto set my an expansible rim at the lower part of the hand in presence of two Witnesses.
stand having ontwzu-dly-extending pins to exercise a pull on the garment and simulta- EMIL OPPENHAUSER neously expand the lower rim of the same in Witnesses: the manner and for the purpose substantially M. LEBEL, as described. ADOLF GASTER.
