Description

E. 5. JUMP.
FINGER CIGAR RETAINER.
(Application filed Inn. 4, 1901.)
Patented Mar. l9, l90l.
(llo Modal.)
NITED STATES EDWIN R. JUMP, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
FINGER CIGAR-RETAINER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 670,023, dated March 19, 1901.
Application filed January 4:, 1901. Serial No. 2,0'75. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Beitknown that LEDWIN R. JUMP,a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Finger Cigar-Retainers, of which the following is a specification.
The purpose of my invention is to afiord support to a cigar, cigarette, or pipe by an ment, Fig. 3 being a side elevation, and Fig.
4 a vertical longitudinal section, of the organized device.
Corresponding letters denote similar features throughout the views, referring to which- A indicates the thin spring coil or ring adjusted upon the finger, asin Fig. 1. The end A, underlying the main body A, being unattached the circumference may be reduced by pressure to assume permanently any size. to fit one or the other of the fingers. The coil A is reflexed at A narrowed slightly, and carried upward at a right angle with the plane of the ring, so as to produce a stable elliptical binding-piece A which, in combination with the similarly-formed movable binding-piece B, forms the retaining feature of the device. This is also reflexed to form the thumb-lever B, which upon pressure causes the bindingpiece B to recede from its companion piece A and thus release the cigar. The pivotal bearings attaching the elliptical binders A and B are seen at O and D, the former bearing up the coacting binder B and. the latter supporting the binder A These bearings consist of portion of the material bent at right angles toward each other in such a manner that one pair laps within the other. The union of the two bodies A and B is insured by the pivot-bar E, for which said bearings are pierced. The retaining quality of the binding-piece B is effected through the helical expansion-spring F, coiled about said pivot-bar E, the ends of which, as usual with this class of springs, bear upon the inner walls of the inclosed space formed by the lapped bearings O D.
In the drawings I have delineated the preferred method of constructing my invention, the main features of which comprise two bodies of material died out by one operation. I do not desire, however, to be held to the strict interpretation of the material and construction herein delineated, but may adopt such equivalents therefor as would come within the fair scope and spirit of my invention.
I claim The combination of the adjusting'ring, the elilptic fixed binder connected therewith, the movable binding-piece provided with a manipulating-lever, means integral with each binder to unite the same, the pivot connecting the binding-pieces, and the expansionspring adapted to force the movable binder against the fixed binder as set forth.
Signed by me at Boston, Massachusetts, this 31st day of December, A. D. 1900.
EDWIN R. JUMP.
