Be it known that I, BRADLEY E. GROVER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Delta, Fulton county, Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hoes, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to and its object is to provide an implement which may be employed interchangeably either as a scurfing-hoe, a pick-hoe, or a spud. I attain these objects by means of the device hereinafter described, and shown and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, made part hereof, in which the single figure is a perspective view of my device.

A is a thin blade of steel, in general outline a right-angled triangle. The base is short, and the acute angle of the opposite end of the blade is truncated, as at b. The margins of the blade are beveled to form sharp cutting edges. The bevel referred to is on that side of the blade which is uppermost when the implement is in use. The point formed by the angle of the perpendicular and hypotenuse is bent or curved u pwardly to form a hook, as at c. The shank of the hoe-handle is bent near its extremity at an obtuse angle, as at cl, and is flattened at top and bottom. The flattened portion of the shank, near its bend, is pivotally secured to the blade by a bolt 8, passing through both members. Through the extremity of the flattened portion of the shank is a hole, which when the blade is swung on the pivot-bolt 6 may be brought into coincidence with either of the holes f in the blade, which holes are arranged in the arc of a circle of which the bolt 6 is the center. Now by means of a bolt and set-screw g h the blade when swung horizontally to the desired angle may be secured weeds.

Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by LettersPatent, 1s

1. In a hoe, a blade comprising a thin sheet of metal in outline an elongated right-angled triangle, having its acute angle opposite the base truncated and curved upwardly as a hook, said sheet of metal having its margins beveled on its upper side, substantially as described.

2. A hoe comprising a blade triangular in general outline and bent or curved at one of its angles, as a hook, a handle having abent shank, a pivotal connection between the shank and blade, and means for securing the blade in adjusted position upon said pivot, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

3. A hoe comprising a blade, a handle having its shank bent at its extremity into horizontal position, pivotal connections between the blade and shank, whereby the blade may be swung horizontally in a plane parallel with the extremity of the shank, and means for securing the blade and shank in adjusted relation with each other.
