To all whom it may concerm Be it known that I, CHRISTOFFER A. CHRIS- TENSEN, of Oretown, in the county of Tilla' inook and State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ore-Concentrators, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to ore-concentrators, especially to that class in which a vibrating riffle-pan is employed; and it has for its object. the construction of an apparatus of this character which will operate to effectively concentrate the ore and which will be of comparatively few and simple parts.
The invention consists in certain details of construction of the riftle-pan and certain arrangements of the same in relation to other parts of the apparatus, which I shall first describe and then particularly claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l is a side elevation of my improved ore-concentrator, parts being broken away. Fig. 2 is a transverse section thereof, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a portion of the riftle-pan shown detached.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the preferably wooden framework of the apparatus, from whose upper side timbers depend steel spring-hangers B, four in number, and attached at their lower ends to the metal supporting-frame C, in which the rifl'le-pan D is adapted to sit.
At one side of the framework A, in the end uprights A, is journaled a shaft E, which has a pulley E at one end, whereby it is operated, and a fly-wheel E at the other end, and is provided with eccentrics E which work in loops or seats formed on one end of the straps E the said straps at their other ends being securely fastened to bars F, which extend from side to side of the riffle-pan D and serve to stiffen or brace the same.
In its specilic construction the riffle-pan D is a sheet-metal trough having flaring sides D, and its bottom and sides are bent, as shown particularly in Fig. l, to form riffles D and the bottom of the pan slopes from the top of one ri'ti'le to the bottom of the next below and is formed with a line of perforations D directly in front of and at the bottom of each riffie. Inclined triangular baffle or stop plates G extend from each side edge of the pan at each riffie and terminate at the bottom of the pan, as shown, the adjacent lower edges of the plates being spaced from each other to provide a middle passage-Way for the ore. The plates G prevent the ore from overflowing the riffles at the corners thereof. It is understood that the pan D is held in an inclined position, the hangers at the discharge end of the pan being longer than those at the feed or hopper end.
As the crushed ore is fed from a suitable hopper (not shown) onto the feed end of the concentrating-pan power is applied from any desired source to the pulley E of the eccentric-shaft E, and the pan D is thereby vibrated from side to side, and the ore will gradually work its Way down the pan, all of the heavy and valuable particles being shaken to bottom of the riffles D and finding their way through the perforationsD From thence the concentrate falls upon the laterally-inclined washer-plate H, suitably supported in the framework, and is Washed down said plate by means of a spray-pipe H.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The improved ore concentrator pan having its sides flared outward and bottom formed of an integral sheet bent or struck up into straight, transverse, parallel ridges and grooves forming rii'fles, and havinga series of holes in each riflie, and a series of triangular baffie-plates arranged oppositely, in pairs, an d set vertically parallel with the rifiles, and extending from the sides inward toward each other, as shown and described.
2. The improved ore -concentrator composed of the pan having transverse riffles with perforations, flaring sides, and baffle-plates arranged vertically as specified, a suitable frame, and swinging hangers for the pan, means for vibrating the pan transversely, the inclined plate arranged underneath the pan, and a water-discharge pipe extending across the upper end of said plate and provided with openings, as shown and described.
