IMPROVED WHITE-WASH BRUSH.
fltlge gamut: Itfttttli in in tlgtsrfisttm fitment ant tithing part at flge same.
W. TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
' Be it known that I, ADAM FOSS, of Wayne county, Ohio, have invented certain new and useful improvements in White-Wash Brushes; and I hereby declare that the following is a true, full, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. In the drawings annexed, which make'a part of this specification- Figure 1 represents a side view of my brush.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the top of the brush, with the brush-head removed.
The letter A represents a band made of tin, or of other metal, and is designed to receive the bristles of which the brush is formed. The band A has a series of holes made near its lower edge for the purpose of rEa1-ea(.see letter C, fig. 2) and'placed in the centre of band A longitudinally. The strip C will be made sufliciently wide to be doubled, and must have the rounded side uppermost when in position. The lower edges of the strip C will be pressed together by the bristles on the opposite sides of said strip, and the bristles made to form a compact mass at their outer ends. The bristles being once in place wrought nails are driven into leach of the numerous perforations in the opposite sides .of the band A. These nails .will all penetrate the brush wears out. It will be observed that as the upper edge of strip 0 is roundedthe bristles will. when compressed by the band A, be adapted to the shape of strip 0, and thus prevented from getting out of place. After the bristles are thus secured the brush-head B will be inserted in band A, and fastened in its position with nails. v
The advantage which my brush has over others now in use is that the'leather, which encloses the upper end of the bristles,'and through which the nails are made to pass, not being liable to shrink like wood, will add greatly to the durability of the article.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and-desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The leather strip C, inserted in band A in the manner and for the purpose substantially as set forth. In testimony that I claim the above as my own I hereby aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ADAM FOSS.
receiving the nails which are to hold the bristles in place. In constructing my brush a strip of leather will be leather strip C, which, not being liable to shrink like wood, will keep the bristles firmly in position until the
