Letters Patent No. 66,787. dated July 16, 1867.'
IMPROVEMENT 1N PLoUGHs.
'ro 'ALL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN:
Be it known that I. T. E. C. BRINLEY, of Louisville, in the county of Jeerson, and Stater of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful improvements inthe construction of Ploughs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, and to the letters of' reference marked there, like letters indicating like `parts wherever they occur. o
To enable others skilled in theert to construct und use my invention, I will proceed to describe it. I
My invention consists incertain improvements on the plough patented to me on the 3d day of July, 1866.
Figure lis View from the land-side offa `plc-ugh merle with my improvements;
FigureA 2 is a. perspective View oftbe cast-iron standard' and flange with the mould-boztrd and point removed; and i i Figure 3 is a, similar View with the mould-bourd und point in place.
In my former plough I Vused a. mould-board and point,l consisting of a single piece, and in that I simply provided a couple of smell anges or projections on the rightdinnd side ofthe standard for securing the mouldboard in place; but in this case I desire to make :t'plough that will permit of the use ot' a mould-hoard and point molde separately, and that will permit of the removal of the mould-board and point, and the substitution of :t cotton-scraper or a. sweep, in their place, whereby the plough can be adapted to a variety of uses I construct the frame otra, front standard, c, and a rear standard, b, united vby c horizontal ange, a, at the top, and the land-side B at the' bottom, all in one piece, as showin in figjl. Projecting from the right-hand side of this, I make :ilange eXtendingfrom top to hott-om, und gradually increasing in width as it descends, :1s represented by Q, in fig. 2; this flung-e inclining at an angle to correspond with and form :t support for the mould-board and point. These latter may be made of' steel or cast iron, according to the soil where itis to be used, and will be secured to the flange C by screws or bolts, as represented in fig. 3.
When it is desired to use the plough for cultivating cotton and similar crops, the mould-board and point 1 are removed, and the ordinary scraper or sweep may be attached in' place of 'the point.4 By this mea-ns I am enabled .to produce an exceedingly cheap implement, specially adapted to the various uses of farmers of the South andWest. f
i Having thus described my invention, what I claim, is
1. The standard and land-side, cast in asingle piece, `nndprovided with the ilzinge C, constructed as described.
2. A plough, consisting of the langed standards, as above described, in combination with a seperate mouldboard and point, of cast iron, as set forth.
3. A plough, consisting of the flanged standard, as described, in combinationwith a mould-board and point,`made separately of steel, as described. I
