Description
No. 666,792. Patented Ian. 29, I901.
n. BEESE. V SELF IGNITING GAS BURNER.
7 (Application filed Jun. 16, 1 900. (N 0 ll 0 d 6 I UNITED STATES PATENT OF ICE.
RICHARD BEESE, OF DRESDEN, GERMANY.
SELF- lGNlTlNG GAS-BURNER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 666,792, dated January 29, 1901.
Application filed January 15, 1900. Serial No. 1,516. (No model.)
To ztZl whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD BEESE, a sub- 'ject of the King of Saxony, residing at 13 Gluckstrasse, Dresden, Kingdom of Saxony, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Self-Igniting connected with the contracting and expanding means usually employed, thereby dispensing with all forms of construction heretofore employed and necessary for connecting the valve-stem governing main and pilot lights and the expanding and contracting body.
In the accompanying drawings, in which the principle of my invention is illustrated, Figure 1 shows in side partial sectional elevation a self-igniting gas-burner embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of a detail of my invention.
It will be clearly seen that I employ a block B, having a central horizontal circular opening therein, in which latter is a snugly-fitting valve-stem A, adapted to move backward and forward. On the forward end of the said stem is a double valve a and b, the former adapted to rest in a valve-seat formed in the forward end of the circular opening aforesaid, closing the same when the stem is in a backward position, while the latter valve b engages a valve-seat formed in the passage f of the headpiece and closes the same when the said stem A is in a forward position. The block igniting mass F, while adjacent to the latter is mounted an expanding and contracting plate D, the lower end of which, passing through the hole 0, engages the lip 01, formed in stem A. It will be thus clearly understood that when the gas-cock (not shown) is opened the gas entering through the headpiece travels into the passage e (adjacent to which the diameter of stem A is reduced) and through passages e and e to the self-igniter, which latter, acting in the usual manner, ignites the gas at the small burner E, which flame, acting on plate D, causes a deformation of the said plate, by which action the lower end engaging lip (1 drives the stem A backward, thereby closing valve 0t and opening valve 1), whence the gas passes to the burner through passage f and is ignited.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a self-igniting gas-burner the combination with a main tube of a pilot-tube, an igniting mass above the upper end of said pilot-tube, a horizontal valve-stem governing main and pilot tubes and a thermostaticallyactuating metallic plate in direct connection therewith substantially as described.
2. In a self-igniting gas-burner the combination with a main tube of a pilot-tube, an igniting mass above the upper end of said pilot-tube, suitable gas-channels in connection with said tubes, two valves governing said channels, a common horizontal stem in connection with said valves and an actuating metallic plate in direct connection with said stem, substantially as described.
RICHARD BEESE.
