UNITE HENRY H. GREENE, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
BAG-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 666,516, dated January 22, 1901.
Application filed May 5, 1900. Serial No. 15,572. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern,.-
Be itk nown that I, HENRY H. GREENE, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, and State of W'iscousin, have invented a new and useful Improvenient in Bag-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in bag-holders.
The object of my invention is to provide a form of device for supporting a bag or sack while it is being filled, to which the bag may be adjusted and removed without loss of time, and which will securely hold the bag in' a position to facilitate filling the same.
In the following description reference is had to the accompanying drawings,in which- Figure l is a plan View of my invention, showing the standards and cross-heads as they are when supporting a bag. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same with the bag adj usted in position thereon, the bag and a portion of one of the supporting-staudards, together with its cross-head, being shown in section and the position of the elastic standard being indicated in dotted lines as it appears when the bag is removed. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the base-plate, showing the standards in crosssection.
Like parts are identified by the same reference-letters throughout the several views.
A is a base-plate, preferably provided with a projecting foot-rest B.
C and D are standards, each provided with a cross -head at its upper end, preferably formed with a concave inner surface and con- Vex exterior surface, as best shown in Fig. l. The standard C is elastic and tends normally to spring outwardly, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2. The standard D may be similarly formed or may be rigid, as shown.
In use the foot of the user vis placed upon the rest B with the knee bearing against the standard C. The upper edge of the bag is then looped around the cross-head E of the standard D and subsequentlylooped over the cross-head of the standard C, the last-mentioned standard being simultaneously pressed inwardly by lthe knee of the user to permit the adjustment of the bag over its cross-head', as indicated in Fig. 2. When the bag is filled, the foot is again placed upon the rest B and the standard C pressed inwardly, whereupon the edges of the bag may be readily disengaged from the cross-heads.
It will be understood that when the bag is in position the elastic outward pressure of the standard C will draw the bag tightly around the cross-heads, causing the edge to engage underneath the same, the bag being thus held firmly in position until the standard C is pressed inwardly to release it.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination of a suitable base, provided with standards rigidly secured to the base and projecting upwardly therefrom; and bag-engaging cross-heads secured to the upper ends of said standards, said standards being adapted to support a bag between them, and one of said standards being elastic, and of suiicient width to afford a rm bearing for the knee of the operator, and adapted to be pressed inwardly by the knee of the operator, to adjust or remove the bag.
2. The combination of a suitable base, provided with a laterally-projecting foot-rest; and standards rigidly secured to the base and provided with bag-engaging cross-heads; one of said standards being elastic and adapted to be pressed inwardly by the knee of the operator, while. the device is held in position by the pressure of the foot on said foot-rest.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
HENRY H. GREENE.
