CHARLES SOHROEDER, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
FILE-CABINET.
$PECIFIGATHON forming part of Letters Eatent No. 666,359, dated January 22, 1901.
Application filed March 7, 1900. Serial No. 7,758. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES Sonnonnnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit,'Wayne county, State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in File-Cabinetspf which the following is a specification, the accompanying drawings forming a part thereof, of which-- Figure l is a perspective view. Fig. 2 represents a sectional plan view of Fig. 1 on the line 2 2. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view of Fig. 2 on the line 3 3. Fig. 4 represents a front view showing the openings for the drawers. Fig. 5 is a detail view of the sliding bottom D.
My invention consists of the file-cabinet A, as shown in Fig. 1, made of wood or other suitable material, which may be of any size or shape desired, said cabinet having vertical partitions B, which said partitions are divided horizontally by floors beginning at the front and running back about one-half Way across said partitions, the front half 0 of said iioor being solidly fastened by glue or otherwise to the partition and the back half D being separated and movable in the groove E. The parts 0 and D of said floor have each an opening F in their center, as shown in Figs. 2 and 5, in which opening the spring G is inserted, said spring being secured at one end of said opening by the screw-eyelet H to the part 0 of said floor and at the other end of such opening by a similar screw-eyelet to the sliding part D of said floor. In the center of the back portion of said sliding partD of said floor is fastened the staple I, as shown specificially in Fig. 5. In the opening between the partition and the floors may beinserted a box which rests upon said floor. The box W being pressed against the staple I, the floor D is forced back along the groove E, which movement is permitted by reason of the stretching of the spring F. Sufficient pressure being exerted, the box may be pressed wholly within the cabinet, and by reason of the slats J, which are nailed parallel with the floors and which are slightly wider, and consequently project above said floors, the box is held in. When it is desired to remove the box, a slight pressure and a raising upward is sufficient to permit the spring to contract and force the box part way out, so that it may be readily removed.
I am aware that file-cabinets are in common use; but
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a file-cabinet containing boxes, the combination of grooved partitions and a horizontal front slat, with a sectional floor supported in the grooves of said partitions, one of said sections being stationary and the other movable and provided with a flange at its rear end, and a spring connecting the movable section with a fixed part, and exerting its tension forward whereby said sections have relative movement with respect to each other.
CHARLES SOHROEDER.
