WILLIAM P. HENDERSON, OF CARSONS CREEK, NORTH CAROLINA.
BLOWER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 665,781, dated January 8, 1901.
Application iled May 7, 1900I Serial No. 15,774. (No model.) v
To all whom it may concern.:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM P. HENDER- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Carsons Creek, in the county of Transylvania and State of North Carolina, have invented new and useful Improvements in Blowers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to blowers designed, primarily, for removing lint and dust from looms or other machinery.
The object of the invention is to provide a blower comprising a fan-wheel and a flexible hose which may be conveniently used for the purpose above stated and may be manufactured at a small expense.
The construction of the invention will be fully described hereinafter and defined in the appended claim, in connectiouwith the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a fan-blower embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a central vertical section of the same.
The base of the machine preferably comprises crossed bars 1 and 2, from one of which project parallel vertical supports 3 and 4. Between the vertical supports and 4 is pivotally secured, by means of trunnions 5, a frame or yoke consisting of a cross-section 6 and outwardly-extending side bars 7 and 8. To the cross-bar 2 of the support 4 is secured a toothed quadrant or rack 9, which extends over said support and is adapted to be engaged by a dog 10, formed at the lower end of a movable rod 11, supported in loops or keepers 12, projecting from the outer side of the fan-case 13. The rod ll is provided with a fixed collar 14, between which and the upper loop 12 is interposed a coil-spring 15, surrounding the rod and adapted to hold it in engagement with the rack 9.
13 designates a fan-case, preferably consisting of two sections 16 and 17, provided with meeting anges 18, secured together by bolts and formed integral with the portion 6 of the yoke. The section 16 is provided with a spout extension 19, to the outer open end of which is attached a flexible hose 20.
21 designates a shaft bearing in journals 22 and 23 on the side bars 7 and 8 of the frame.
Upon the shaft 21 within the casing is mounted a fan 24, and upon said shaft between the fan-casing and support 8 is mounted a pulley 25.
The casing 13 is formed with openings 26 on each side for the admission of air to the fan.
The operation of the apparatus is as follows: When it is desired to remove the lint or dust from the loom, the pivoted frame is turned to bring the pulley 25 into contact with the driving-belt which operates the loom, thus revolving the fan and creating a blast of air through the spout 19 and hose 20. The hose may be readily turned to direct the draft in any desired direction and the force of the blast blows the lint from the loom or other machine, thus avoiding the tedious cleaning by hand with a rag.
Instead of operating the fan by the contact of the pulley 25 with the driving-belt of the loom it may be revolved by an independent belt, in which case the frame carrying the revolving shaft need not be pivotally secured, but may be stationary. l
I reserve the right to make all such changes and modifications in the details of the mechanism as may properly fall within the scope of the invention as delined in the following claim. i
Having thus fully described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A blower comprisinga base; an adjustable frame pivotally secured to said base; a casing having a spout extension secured to said frame at one side of the pivot thereof 5 a hose secured to said spout; a shaft supported in bearings in said frame; and extending through the casing; a fan mounted upon said shaft within the casing; a pulley fixed to the shaft outside of the casing; and means for holding the frame at any position to which it may be adjusted.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM P. HENDERSON.
