NITED STATES PATENT EFFICE.
STELLA NEVILLE, OF LIsooMB, IOWA;
BUNDLE-CARRIER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 665,456, dated January 8, 1901.
Application filed June 18, 1900.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STELLA NEVILLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Liscomb, in the county-of Marshall and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Portable and Adjustable Bundle-Carrier, of which the following is a specification.
My object is to provide an adjustable bundle-carrier adapted for fastening packages of various numbers, shapes, and sizes together upon a frame supported upon Wheels in such a manner that they can be advantageously moved about therewith without lifting any weight and by simply pushing or pulling with a hand applied to the top of the adjustable carrier.
My invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my carrier in position as required for practical use. Dotted lines indicate how parts may be adjusted relative to each other and fitted to obj ects of difierent lengths and diflerent heights as required to fasten them. Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the frame or base of the device mounted on wheels fixed or swiveled thereto at its corner portions.
The letters A designate the mating parallel side bars of the frame or base rigidly connected at their end portions by means of mating cross-pieces B and rivets or screw-bolts or in any suitable way. Wheel-bearers C are attached to the end portions of the crosspieces B and wheels 0 journaled in the bearers and preferably provided with rubber tires. Mating bars D are fixed in parallel position and some'space apart upon the central portions of the cross-pieces B. The parts A, I
B, and D are preferably made of hard wood, and to the mating bars D are fixed short metal plates D Metal bars F, bent at right angles at their end portions, have elongated slots at their central portions and also at their right-angled end portions and are slidably connected at their lower ends with the cross-pieces B by means of clamping-screws g in such a manner that they can be moved inward and outberialllo- 20,654. ward relative to the center of the carrier, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1, and as required to adjust them relative to the lengths of objects to be placed and fastened between them.
Two mating bars H are slidably connected at their inner ends by means of integral loops or clasps, as shown in Fig. 1, or in any suitable Way, so that their joint length will be readily adjusted by the movements of the bars or frames F, to which they are adjustably connected at their ends, that are bent at right angles and perforated to admit clamping-screws K, extended inward through elongated slots in the frames F, so they can be raised and lowered.
A handle L, composed of mating flat bars bent at right angles at their lower ends and rigidly connected by means of a cross-piece L Welded or otherwise fixed between, is adjustably connected with the upper horizontal portions of the frames F by means of clamping-screws m. A handhold N is fixed between the tops of the mating parts of the handle L in such a manner that the complete device can be lifted thereby or moved about when loaded with packages and supported upon the wheels under its base.
Leather straps P are fixed to the sides and end portions of the base in such a manner that they can be advantageously used to aid in securely fastening objects to the portable carrier.
Having described the construction,arrangement, and combination of the different parts, the practical operation and utility of my invention will be readily understood by persons familiar with the art to which it pertains, and
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a bundle-carrier, a frame or base mounted upon wheels under its four corner portions, mating frames consisting of flat metal bars bent at right angles at their end portions and provided with elongated slots at their central portions and slidably connected at their lower ends with the ends and central portions of the base by means of clampingscrews, and mating bars slidably connected and their ends bent at right angles and adj ustably connected with the vertical and central portions of said mating frames arranged and combined to operate in the manner set forth for the purposes stated.
2. A portable bundle-carrier comprising a frame or base mounted npon Wheels under its corners, mating frames, consisting of flat bars 1 bent at right angles at their end portions and provided with elongated slots, slidably connected with the centers of the end portions of the base, two mating bars slidably connected with each other and bent at their ends STELLA NEVILLE.
