DELIVERY MECHANISM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 663,057, dated December 4, 1900.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SETH WHEELER, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Castleton, Rensselaer county,New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Delivery Mechanism, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to delivery mechanism adapted to deliver articles contained therein either singly or in any predetermined order or quantity; and my invention consists in a receptacle or magazine for containing the articles to be delivered, such magazine having two channels adapted to receive two columns of articles at an angle to each other,
a discharge-plate having an orifice corresponding in area with the lower end of one of said channels, means for rotating or partially rotating the discharge-plate relatively to the magazine, a delivery-chute, and a device for guiding the articles to said chute.
My invention may be used by itself as a complete apparatus or may, if desired, be attached to or be a part ofa vending-machine.
The objects of my inventio'n are to simplify the construction of such mechanism and reduee the number of working parts to a minimum, at the same time to insure the accurate and positive delivery of the articles singly or in any predetermined order'or nu mher; and my invention further consists in certain novel details of construction and combination of parts, as shall hereinafter be more fully set forth.
I will now proceed to describe mechanism embodying my invention with reference to the accompanying drawings and will then point out the novel features in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation, partially in central vertical section, of a machine embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a front exterior view of same. Fig. 3 is-a horizontal transverse section on the line C D of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a central section of a discharge-plate employed. Fig. 5 is a face View of same. Fig. 6 is a detail view showing the relative position of two adjacent articles when in different channels in the magazine. Fig. '7 is an edge view of the same.
Similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several fig ures.
Reference character 1 designates the maga zine for containing the articles to be delivered. 2 designates a cap or cover for the same, which is removable for the purpose of obtaining access to the interior of the magazinc and which is provided with a lock 4 for securing same in position.
3 is a reinforcing-ring secured to the top of the magazine for the purpose of strengthening same.
8 designates a lowercasing or support having feet 9, upon which it stands, and 5 designates a ring or connecting-piece, which supports and to which is secured the magazine 1.
The magazine 1 is provided interiorly with a series of strips 10 of substantially triangular shape in cross -section (see Fig. 3) and which extend clear from the top to the bottom thereof. The disposition of these strips, as shown, forms two channels of equal size within the outer cylindrical casing, in which may be deposited a series of tickets, packages, or other articles. Two of such articles are illustrated in Figs. 6 and '7, in which figures they are also illustrated at the angle relatively to each other that they will be when contained in the said channels.
The articles may be placed each alternately in the two channels, or a plurality may be placed therein alternately, or any number may be so placed in regular or irregular order alternately,or alternately with single articles, as may be so desired, and in such order they will be delivered. I will now describe the means employed for delivering same.
6 designates a supportingplate. (Shown more particularly in detail in Figs. 4 and 5.) The said plate is mounted in the lower casing or support 8 and adapted to rotate therein. It is provided with a discharge orifice or opening of substantially the area of one of the channels of the magazine, and the said discharge-opening is so arranged relatively to the said channels that upon the rotation of the supporting-plate the said discharge-opening shall alternately register with each of said channels.
11 designates a knob or handle secured to the supporting-plate and by which it isadapted to be operated. The shank of the knob passes through a slot 15 in the lower casing and also through a ring 7, which surrounds the casing and which is thus adapted to rot-ate with the supporting-plate. The slot 15 limits the movement of the supporting-plate in either direction and is so arranged as to just permit the discharge-opening therein to come into register with each of the channels of the magazine as the plate is moved in one direction or the other. When the said supporting-plate is moved from one side to the other, the lowermost article or articles in the channel with which the discharge opening registers will fall through the said dischargeopening onto the inclined surface within the lower casing, and thence through the delivery-slot 13.
12 designates a ledge, npon which the article in the channel, which is out of line with the delivery-slot 13, will come in contact in falling. This will have the effect of holding up one end of the article until the other end has insure its positive delivery.
