SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 662,762, dated November 27, 1900.

To all w/wm, it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK A. BROWNELL, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Clips for Holding Rolls or Spools; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and to the reference-numerals marked thereon.
My present invention has for its object to provide an improved clip for holding spools or rolls of such material as photographic film or paper, and more particularly rolls or film cartridges composed of a strip of sensitized photographic film and a covering-strip of black paper wound with it upon a spool or roll, said clip being of simple and cheap construction and capable of application to a suitable iilm-camera or other support, all as will be hereinafter described, and the novel features pointed out in the claims at the end of this specification.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a holding-clip constructed in accordance with my invention applied to a suitable support. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the support and clip with a roll held thereby.

The clip is formed from a single sheet or blank of spring metal, such as brass, having the curved body portion 1 and the curved fingers 2 at the ends of the body portion, as shown, to form a portion of a cylinder, the free ends of the fingers normally extending slightly inward toward the axis of the cylinder to grasp and hold the spool or roll 3, as shown in Fig. 2. One side of the body portion extends tangentially of the fingers or arms 2, and its end is bent over to provide the flange or projection 4, extending substantially parallel with the tangential portion, the flange being also more or less elastic and being set inward slightly, so as to firmly grasp between it and the tangential portion of the clip the edge 5 of a support preferably forming a part of the receptacle in which'the spool is to be held.

Although the clip is primarily adapted for holding rolls of film in photographic cameras, such as are shown in my pending application, filed July 25, 1900, Serial No. 24,799, and of which this application is a division, it is well adapted for holding other materials or devices, such as spools or rolls, which are capable of rotating therein for the purpose of removing the contents, the fingers 2 extending slightly more than half-way around the spool or roll to be held, preventing the liability of accidental removal.
I claim as my invention-- 1. A clip for holding rolls, spools, &c., constructed of a single piece of sheet metal provided with the curved spring-fingers, the portion extending tangentially of the fingers, and the flange extending substantially parallel with said tangential portion.
2. A clip for holding rolls, spools, &c., composed of a single piece of sheet metal having the curved spring-fingers, a portion extending tangentially of said fingers, the flange extending over the said tangential portion, and a projecting ing or ear.
3. A clip for holding rolls, spools, 850., composed of a single piece of sheet metal having the curved body provided with a tangential portion, the flange extending over the outer side of the latter and the curved elastic fingers at the ends of the body.
