TOBACCO CASING TABLE.
(Application filed May 9, 1900.)

WITNESSES: INVENTOR 7 mill fit: BY
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SEGELKE BOHLMAN, OF WEST ALEXANDRIA, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO HENRY MEYER, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
TOBACCO-CASING TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 661,787, dated November 13, 1900.
- Application filed May 9, 1900. s al nalaosz on model.)
To a whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SEGELKE BOHLMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at West Alexandria, in the county of Preble and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Tobacco-Casing Tables, of which following is a specification.
My invention relates to the improvement of tobacco-casing tables and the objects of my invention are to provide a superior construction of casing-table of this class and to combine therewith superior means for easing the tobacco or preparing it for the usual resweating process, to so construct and arrange the parts of my improved casing-table as to admit of a thorough preparation of the tobacco for resweating in a comparatively short time, and to produce other improvements in details of construction and arrangement of parts, which will be more fully pointed out hereinafter, These objects I accomplish in the manner illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view in perspective of my improved casing-table, one corner thereof be ing broken away for the sake of clearness in illustration. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, and Fig. 3 is a transverse section.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout theseveral views.
In carrying out my invention I employ a casing-table body which, as indicated in the drawings, is in the nature of an oblong boX 1, having suitable supporting-legs 1*, said box being provided in its bottom and lower portion of its sides with a metallic lining, preferably zinc, as indicated at 2. Upon the floor-lining thus provided are supported at intervals transverse bars 3, and resting upon 0 these bars is a horizontal heat-radiating frame 4, consisting of communicating side and end steam- pipes 5 and 6 and intermediate parallel steam-pipes 7, which connect said end pipes 6. The steam-pipe frame or radiator thus formed has leading into the centralportionof one of its end pipes a supply-pipe 8, which may be provided ata desirable point with a valve (not herein shown) for regulating the passage of steam therethrough, said steam-supply pipe leading from a boiler or other suitable source of'steam-supply. The
controlled steam-return pipe 11, which-may lead back to the source of steam-supply, as in ordinary radiator construction. Upon the pipe-frame 4: I support a screen-frame 12, the
screen-body thereof being but partially shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings for the sake of clearness in illustration.
In order to prepare leaf-tobacco for sizing and resweating, it has been customary to first dampen the bundles into which the tobacco was tied and subject the same to an even and gradual heat, this being ordinarily accomplished by putting the dampened bundles into a box or case and running them into a hot room, where they are kept for a day or so and are then brought out, taken from the cases, redampened, repacked, and then returned to the hot-room. This process, which is necessary to impart the desired softness or pliability to the leaves, ordinarily requires a number of days. In using my device for imparting the desired softness and pliability to the leaves a layer of burlap or similar material is usually placed upon the. wire screen 12, upon which the tobaccois stacked, with the tips of the leaves up. This being accomplished, the tobacco is preferably covered with a blanket or other suitable covering, so as to retain the heat therein, after which steam is turned into the supply-pipe 8 and frame 4. By this process the heat which rises from the pipe forming the frame 4 is thoroughly circulated through the tobacco, with the result that the tobacco is in perfect condition for sizing and resweating within a few hours. It will thus be seentthat by the use of my improved casing-table a great saving of time and labor is attained and that the construction of said table is simple and inexpensive.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a tobacco-casing table, the combination with the oblong tank, a metallic lining in its lower portion and parallel cross-bars 3 arranged in the bottom of said tank, of a heatradiating frame consisting of transverse end] pipes 6 and longitudinally-arranged pipes 4 connecting said end pipes, said radiatingframe supported upon said bars, a steam-inlet pipe connecting with one of said frame end pipes, an outlet-pipe connecting with the remeinin g end pipe and an oblong screen-frame detachably supported upon the upper side of said rediatingirame, substantially as speci- 1o fied. I
SEGELKE 'BOHLMAN.
