BEDSTEADFASTENlNG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 661,354, dated November 6, 1900.

Be it known that I, FRED C. F. PETERS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Monroe, in the parish of Ouachita andl State of Louisiana, have" invented a new and Improved Bedstead-Fastening, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The purpose of this invention is to provide a bedstead-fastening which will securely bind the parts of a bed together and prevent them from becoming detached by breakage or movenient of the bed.
This specification is the disclosure of one form of the invention, while the claim defines the actual scope thereof.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l is a plan View of the fastening, showing parts of the bed in section. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation on the line 2 2 of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a face view of one of the members of the fastener detached. Fig. etis a sectional view looking upward from the line et 4 of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a sectional elevation of the other member of the fastening, and Fig. t5 is a section on the line 6 G of Fig. 5.
In the drawings, a represents the bed-post, to which the head a of the bed is shown as attached.
h represents the side rail, which is attached to the post. The fastening is formed in two sections, respectively designated c and d, the former being attached to the rail b and the latter to the post d. The section o is preferably formed of sheet metal bent 1ongitudinally to form two parallel parts, one of which is secured firmly against the side of the rail by screws e and the other part of which lies out from the rail, such other partr being formed with openings e', through which the two lower of the screws e may be passed to be engaged with the rail h, and the upper end of the outer part of the section c is cut away diagonally, as indicated atf. A pin g is passed through both parts of the section c of the fastening and is secured in the side rail ZJ, the head of the pin projecting beyond the outer part of the section c for a purpose which will be explained hereinafter. The section d is also formed, preferably, of sheet metal and is bent longitudinally to form three parts, one of which, CZ, lies flat against the bed-post a and is fastened by screws thereto, and the other two, d2 and d3, lie parallel with each other, the same as the two parts of the section c. The'part d2 of the section d has its outer edge lying diagonally with respect to the post a, and the part d3 is carried parallel to said outer edge, and consequently diagonally to the post. The inner edge of the outer part of the section c of the fastening (the lefthand edge in Fig. 3) lies diagonally to the op posite edge of the section. Now by inserting the outer part of the section c between the parts d2 and d3 of the section cl the diagonal edges of the several parts of the sections of the fastening will work against each other, thus forcing the post against the rail and binding these two parts in firm connection. The part cl2 of the section d of the fastener is formed with a slot d4, serving to receive the pin g, and as the two sections are moved into engagement the pin g enters the slot d4 to further secure the parts and also to limit the downward movement of the rail on the post.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A bedstead-fastening, comprising two sections, the first of which has a flat outstanding part and the second of which has two flat outstanding parts lying in parallel planes and receiving the outstanding part of the first section between them, and a pin carried by the first section and disposed transversely of the said outstanding part thereof, the second section having a recess in one of its outstanding parts to receive the pin, for the purpose specitied.
