COMBINED BRUSH AND SOAP HOLDER.-
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 661,126, dated November 6, ieoo.
Application filed December 22, 1899. Serial No. 741,280- (No model.)
bined Scrubbing Brush Holder and. Soap Holder, of which the following is a specifica tion, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in whichi Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my device, showing its position when the scrubbing-brush is used. Fig. 2 is aside elevation of the same; Fig. 3, a side elevation showing the position of the device when it is used for applying soap to a floor; Fig. 4, a front elevation of the device. I
It is the purpose of this invention to produce a simple, durable, and inexpensive combined floor scrubbing and soaping implemen t, with the scrubbing-brush and soap cake held in such relation to each other that either may be used at will, as occasion requires, in the process of cleaning a floor by simply turning the implement over through the medium of its operating-handle, this handle being preferably so disposed angularly with reference to the brush and soap holders thatit will stand at a convenient angle for operation whichever device be in use and of such length that the implement may be operated with case from a standing position, thereby avoiding the necessity of kneeling upon the floor and in other ways greatly lessening the time and labor incident to cleaning a floor in the old manner.
Referring to the drawings by reference-letters, a designates the brush-plate, which is of suitable dimensions and is provided at its front edge and its rear edge with a downward-turned flange b, between which flanges the scrubbing-brush is adapted to be removably clamped by any suitable meansas, for instance, by a pairof set-screws which may be inserted in the screw-holes 0 provided in the front flange for that purpose.
Secured rigidly to the upper side of the plate a is a handle-socket d, which inclines upward and rearward from the plate at such an oblique angle that the handle 6 inserted therein will stand in .a position convenient for the operator-to use while standing erect,
the handle being of course long enough for this purpose.
The soap-holder consists of aflat plate f,- secured at its lower edge to the plate a, near the front edge of the latter, and'extending upward andslightly rearward from its point of connection with said plate a, the upper and lower edges of the plate f being provided with flanges g, which curve forward and inward toward each other, so that by groovingtogether at their points of contact, as .will be obvious, or it may be constructed in any other suitable manner.
It will be observed that by thus arranging the brush-holder and soap-holder angularly with reference to each other and attaching the handle to the device at a point intermediate the two the handle will stand at an acute angle with reference to both the brush-holder and the soap-holder, the advantage of which is that whichever device is in use the handle will stand at a convenient angle for the proper manipulation of the implement from a standing position, as will be observed especially in Figs. 2 and 3. It will also be observed that by thus disposing the handle obliquely with reference to the two holders it is simply necessary in changing from one device to the other to give the handle a half-turn in either direction. It will therefore be observed that by my invention I provide an exceedingly simple and convenient implement that saves much time and labor in scrubbing floors and the like. It will be obvious also that an essential feature lies in attaching the socket to the brush-holder plate and bracing it against the soap-holding plate, since the brush-holder is used more frequently and more vigorously, and it is desirable, therefore, to have the handle attached more strongly thereto and at the most convenient angle, the soap-holder plate being in reality a supplemental device and being brought into requisition only occasionally.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A combined scrubbing-brush holder and soap-holder, oomprisinga plate provided with means for holding the brush and having a handle-socket attached to it and inclining upward and backward, a soap-holder plate attached to the brushplate at the front edge thereof and extending upward therefrom and provided with means for holding a cake of soap, and a bracing-Web connecting the socket to the brush-plate, substantially as set forth. [5
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
