DANIEL J. KENNEDY, OF TAUNTON,1VIASSAOHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR, BY DIRECT AND MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, OF ONE-HALF TO ALBERT KING, Oh SAME PLACE.
COMBINED DUMB-BELL AND INDIAN CLUB.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 660,962, dated October so, 1900.
Application filed April 28, 1899. Serial No. 714,848. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL J. KENNEDY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tauntou, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented newand useful Improvements in a Combined Dumb-Bell and Indian Club, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to combined du [11b- IO bells and swinging clubs of that class or description known as Indian clubs; and its object is to provide an improved article of the above character which can be used as an ordinary dumb-bell or as a swinging club for 15 exercising purposes, as described.
The invention consists, essentially, in a dumb-bell formed with a longitudinal opening extending therethrough and with intersecting holes at each end, one of which is screw-threaded, and a screw-rod extending through said holes which is removable and reversible, as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the device as it appears in use as a dumb-bell. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the device as it appears when used as a swinging or Indian 0 club.
In the said drawings the reference-numeral l designates a metal casting or wooden block having formed therein a longitudinal opening 2, extending therethrough. At one end 5 this casting or block is formed with a hole 3,
intersecting said opening, and at the opposite end is formed with a corresponding hole 4,.which is screw-threaded. Passing through club,the rod is removed and the screw-threaded end thereof is inserted in the hole 4 from the outside, thus occupying a reversed position from that when used as a dumb-bell, as will be clearly seen in Fig. 3.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is A combined dumb-bell and Indian club consisting of a weight having a transverse oval aperture therethrough, a central longitudinal opening extending entirely through the weight, interior screw-threads formed in the opening near one end thereof, the remaining portion of said opening being plain or smooth, and a rod having a bead at one end and a screwthreaded portion at the other end passed through the opening from the unthreaded end thereof and secured in place at the threaded end to serve as a dumb-bell, the rod being removable and reversible for connection to the weight at the threaded end to serve as an Indian club, substantially as described.
