PETROLEUM GAS-BURNER FOR H EATING PURPOSES.
@Llp Stimuli referat tu iu time` yrttn's atmtrut making ont nt tige same.
Bo it known that I, D. L. HOLDEN, ofthe city of New Orleans, parish of Orleans, and State of Louisiana, hnverinvented u. certain newA and useful improvement inV Petroleum Gas-Burners; and I do hereby declare the followingto be a full, clcar, and exact description otthe same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which` *l Figure 1 is' a perspective view of a burner that contains uiy improvement; and
-Figure 2, a sectional view of the same.
My invention consists of n' concentric chamber to contain' the oil aroundpan interior or central air-cheminer.
or iluo, und the o lect accomplished by it' is a more rapid generation off gas, and a consequent intenser heat than obtains ,in the burncrsof Gray, Seroni, Dopp, Jcrvey, and all others with which I have any acquaintance.
Rcfcrringto the drawings,.A-represents a burner, Bv the central air-chamber, and C the concentric oilchamher that l have devised. l
In thc operation of my burner the oil enters the concentric chamber through the pipe D, which,` it willbe understood, is provided ivith valves and mechanical appliances' to prevent leakage, and completely surrounds thc central air-chamber B. Heat being applied in any usual manner, (and, from the construction of my burner, g
it will be seen that this can be donc in so general Vand difuso a manner that the heat will be'hrcught' to bear upon the oil on all" sides) gas or vapor is quickly generated, and, issuing from thc oil within the concentric chamber C, enters the central air-chamber, near the top tl1ereof,'through thc apertures or vent-holes D.` Now,
as soon as the evolution 'of gas begins it can be lighted by the application of a-ilnmc t'o the rents D. Issuing p vfrom thcsevents, the burning gas nnpinges upon the vwalls of 'the air-el1amber, and `quickly snperincluces therein avery great degree of heat. The walls being thus heated, the evolution offgas becomes more rapid, and this induces a more rapid combustion. The. result is, to produce and to' keep .up a very intense degree of heat, which is the "object sought after. It' a still greater heat be desirabie, it can be produced by the application of'a short metallic chimney fitted over the burner, und resting upon the anch E, which, it will bc observed, encircles the burner; or, it` a distribution of the heator liamc labove the burner `be required, a perforated |met-allie cap mav be applied with the certaintyof attaining a generaldiiusion of the said ame. v
In manufacturing my burner I either cast itas aneutirety, Yor the two chambers B and, C may De establishedhy the insertion 'of the section cfa pipe on the plan shown upon the drawings. I do not limit myself to any particular or specified mode of making my invention, that is to say,'of manufacturing it.
. Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat-ent, is
A gas retort and burner, consisting of the concentric or annular oil-chamber C, in. combination with a central lair-chamber or tine, B, provided' with 'perforations D at or near the top of chamber C, substantially as and for the purpose described. I
