Be it known that I, WILLIAM M. HENDERSON, of the city of Philadelphia, and Stute of Pennsylvania, halve linvented a ne1 und useful Improvementin the Mode of Constructing Stcain-Plunger Pumps; und I do hereby' declare the following to be a full, cleo-r, and exact description of the saine, reference being had to the aecompanying drawing, making :ipart o t` this specicution, undto thc letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 is a sectional elevation showing the general arrangement.

The object of this invention is a plungenpump, actuated by steam 'or other elastic luid, with a vien' to strength, compadtness, andsimplicity of details, adapted to mines, steam vessels, rolling-mills` and other rough usage, Where u failure to perform by a derangcment of complicated parts would be dangerous, and consists in the construction of a single-acting plunger-pump, enveloped in a water-box, ivhich answers the treble purpose of a vacuum-chamber, pocket for receiving the deposit of extraneous matter drawn in with the injection water, and also affords a sta-biellese for the small barrel of the pump g the steam-cylinder being rigidly connected to vvit by a stout housing. `Also in the direct manner of operating the valve, hereafter more fully described.

The induction and delivery-valves are contained in separate boxes outside, and are attached respectively to the vacuum-chamber at N N.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement of the pump, steam-cylinder, land housing, as described.
The arrangement of o vacuum-chamber, enveloping the pump barrel, substantially in the manner and for the purposes represented. l
