IMPROVEMENT IN WAGON-SPRINGS.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it l nnwn that we, Jenn G. Ossees and Gsnnn'r O. LANSING, of Rhinebeek,-Dutehess count-y, New York, have invented an improved Wagon-Spring; and we do hercbydeclnre that the following is e full, clear, and exact description thereof,'which will enable others skilled in the art to make nnd-use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

The object of this invention is to provide a very simple and cheap but .a very elastic spring, or rather set of springs, for wagons and sleighs; and the invention consists in arranging a series of-pairs of fiat wooden springs, each pair being laid at right angles across the pair above, so that the more sets of springs are applied the greater will be the elasticity of the whole. In the nnnexeddrawings our invention iSi-Ilustrated- Figure 1 being a side view of a wagon-box provided with our improved springs.

Figure 2 is a bottom view of the same.

'A is a wagon-box, made as usual, and of any suitable material. Across its bottom, and near-to the ends of the some, are secured two flat wooden springs, a a, by means of plugs 11 6, or otherwise, whereby a space is left between a and A, and thus as th'e plugs are arranged at or near to the ends of the springs the elasticity of the latter is nntdostroycd, the centre of the springs not coming in contact with the wagon-body or any projection thereon. Near to the ends of the springs a a are secured, by means of'screws or otherwise, and at right angles with thej'orm cr, springs a a'. Across these are arranged springs a" a, the same being nearer to the centre of the wagon than the springs a a; and at right angles with a" a, are arranged springs a 'a', which are or may be further apart than a a, and so forth, each pair beinga-rranged at right angles across the pair above, until a suiiicient number of such pairs are arranged to insure the required elasticity. The lowest pair is then secured to the front and rear axles of a wagon, 'or to the runners of a sleigh, in any suitable manner.

We do not claim any particular number of such pairs of springs, four being the lowest employed; nor do we claim the manner of securing the springs to each other, or to the runners or axle or to the box. If desired the perch can be omittcd when' these springsare used, butwhen required it may be used as usual.

We claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent The fiat wooden springs a, a, a", a, etc., when arranged in pairs, each pair at right angles across the ;cther, substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
