This invention relates to cocks or faucets, and it has reference particularly to cocks or. faucets employed for drawing liquids from kegs, barrels,.and othersimilar closed con tainers. l
The invention consists in the improved faucet and in the combination and arrangement of its various parts, substantially as will be hereinafter described and finally embodied in the clauses of the claiin.

In order to limit the movement of the key in turning the plug, said key is provided with alaterally-projecting lug 1', which is adapted to engage stops 5, formed in an integral key- .socket t, that projects upwardly from the faucet. As the upper end of this socket t is provided with an inwardly-projecting flange it, which closely fits about the spindle of the key and which has but a single recess '0 for admitting the lug 1", the key after once being inserted in the key-socket and operated to turn the plug or spigot and permit the flow of the liquid from the container cannot be removed until the plug has been turned back again to shut off the flow.
A cylindrical neck w, disposed bet-ween the key-socket and the body of the faucet and receiving the upper end of the spigot, is provided with two oppositely-disposed orifices as. In the plane of these orifices the spigot is 0 denotes a key for operating the spigot or provided with a transversely-extending bore y, which when the spigot is turned registers with said orifices. In one of these orifices is screwed a nipple z, and in this nipple isscrewed another removable nipple 1.
2, Fig. 6, is a tapering tap or plug which is adapted to be driven into the upper portion of the barrel and which carries nipples 3 4, corresponding to the nipples z 1, the latter being removably screwed into the former.

lVhen the liquid is to be withdrawn from the barrel or other container, the key having been inserted into the key-socket, as above described, and applied to the plug, when the key is turned the plug or spigot will be likewise turned to permit the flow of the liquid from the container. At the same time, the port y and the orifices :10 being made to register with each other, air will be permitted to flow through the same from the atmosphere and through the tube and the tap 2 into the barrel. Airis thus admitted to the barrel as fast as the liquid is withdrawn, and the pressure inside and outside of the barrel being thus maintained equal the flow of the liquid will be unimpeded.
As has been hereinbefore stated, the plug 7L can be operated so as to restrict the flow through the faucet, if necessary, and this may be done by using the key 0, whose projection q is adapted to fit the slot in said plug.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of a faucet having a spigot or plug, and also. having perforations communicating with its bore, an adjustable erally-extending lug, and the spigot having a groove in one of its ends adapted to receive the projection of the key, and a key-socket on said faucet, said key-socket having an internal recessed flange adapted to engage said lug, substantially as described.
2. The combination of a faucet having a controlling spigot or plug, airconducting means controlled by said spigot or plug and adapted to be connected with the container .to which said faucet is applied, said faucet having perforations communicating with its bore, and an adjustable plug of less diameter than the bore,arranged in the same,and adapted to control the communication through said perforations, substantially as described.
