TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN:
Be it known that I, A. lV'cR. BLAIN, of Deerfield, in the county of Augusta, and State of Virginia, have invented a new and useful Improved Machine for Paring, Coring, and Slicing Apples; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same. 4
The present invention relates to a machine for the paring, coring and slicing of apples more particularly, although it can be used for other and various fruits, by means of which machine each and all of the operations above stated can be performed in -the most easy and perfect manner. A, in the drawings, represents the framework of the machine, which is to be of any suitableconstruction to accommodate its varions vworking parts. B, a horizontal shaft or spindle, extending across the framework of the machine, in bearings of which it turns. On one end of this shaft is secured a. fork or prong piece, C, to receive the apple to be pared, which is accomplished by revolving the shaft B, at the same time holding a paringknife blade, D, up and against the same, this blade being secured to a handle, E, for convenience in holding it to the apple. To revolve the shaftA B, a crank-handle,- F, is attached to it, at the opposite end to that having the fork or prong piece C. After the apple is pared as above stated, it is placed upon the table or platform portion G of the machine, where it is out at rightangles with the stem and seed-podsinto two parts, or, in other words, halved, by bringing down' the knife-blade H attached to a. handle-lever or arm, I, hinged to the frame A, so as to swing or play up and down in a vertical plane; this arm I being thrown up after it has been depressed by the action of the bent spring J properly arranged therefor, in connection with it. vThe apple having been thus halved, is then cored by placing it with its twov halves together upon and against the end piece J2 of a horizontal frame, K,arranged to slide in the framework A across the same, .which end piece J2 is open in its centre, through which projects a tool, L, suitable for removing orcutting the core from an apple. This tool is at one end of a transverse horizontal shaft, N, which is. revolved through a pulley and belt connection with the prong-shaft B1', the pulley on the coring-tool shaft being loose, and being thrown into'and out of connection with the shaft by means of a clutch, N, arranged to slide upon such shaft. The apple, after being thus cored, is removed from the frame K, which is immediately thrown back by the action of the bent spring? properly arranged in connection with it therefor. `To slice or divide the apple up into a series of pieces,- it is then placed upon the upright spindle S of the framework Aunder the' handle of the halving-knife, resting upon the intersecting knife-blades T, secured or arranged in the framework A, when, bringing such handle down upon the apple, it is then cut or divide-d into parts corresponding to the number of said knfe-bladcsT, as is obvious without any further explanation, the several pieces of thc apple passing through the spaces between thc knifcjblades down into a. chamber or box formed inthe lowcrportion of the framework A fortheir reception.

2. The arrangement of the prong-knife B, halving-shaft H, coring-knife L, and slicing-blades T with each other, and with the frame A, when allare constructed and operating as herein described and for the purpose specified.
