Description

NITED TATES J OSEF RUDOLF, OF GERA, GERMANY.
PROCESS OF WATERPROOFING AND FINISHING TEXTILE'MATERIAL. I
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 653,701, dated July 17, 1900.
Application filed March 26, 1898. Serial No; 675,283. (Nd specimens.) I
To all whom it may-concern.-
Be it known that I, JOSEF RUDOLF, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of 31 Thalstrasse, Gera, in the Principality of Bones, in the Empire of Germany,
have invented a new and useful Improved Process of Waterproofing and Finishing Textile Material, of which the following is a speci- ,fication; 1
V Hitherto paraffin, stearates, wax, and the like solid substances have been employed in the following way for rendering fabrics and the like waterproof: First, by causing a hot roller to rotate against the said solid sub- I5 stances and then conveying the goods against the said roller, or, secondly, by dissolving these substances in benzole, henzin, orthe like and saturating the goods with such solution. The first named process has the drawback that it is very di-flicult to effect an even distribution of coating. The second is too expensive in consequence of the solvents employed.
This invention has for its object an improved process for rendering textile .materials, 'wood substances, and the like waterproof and for protecting them against spotting and moths. The improved process is characterized by the use of substancesfinsolu- 3o ble in water, such,'for instance, as solid hylike compounds) vegetable wax, and beeswax, resins, and the like being melted and emulsioned or mixed in liquid condition in hot water by suitable means in such a way that the mixture approximates to a solution, the articles, materials, or goods being then coated or otherwise saturated with a thin film of this mixture, While the latter is applied at such a high temperature that the water or ishing substances are melted into the goods.
The above-named substances can be used either singly or in mixture in the following proportions: parallin, one part; aluminium stearate, half-apart; ozoce'rit e, two parts, and
' fluid evaporates and thewaterproofing or fin: Y
the said emulsion while maintained at a high temperature, to the material to be waterproofed.
The foregoing specification is signed. a Gera, Reuse, German Empire, this 2d day of February, 1898.
' JOSEF RUDOLF. In 'presence of- A. BRAUTIGAM, G. MULLER.
