Application filed March 80, 1900.
To all whom may concern:
Be it known that I, HOMER W. RIon'rMYnR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rowleshurg, in the county of Pre Sj iQn and State of WestVirginia, have invented certain newand useful Impro vements'infljoy Pistols; andI 'do hereby declare the folloli'ing to be a full, clear, and exaotdescription of the invenart to which it ap pertains to make and usethe same.
The purpose of the present invention is to improve, simplify, and cheapen the construction of the toy pistoT covered lby'Letters Patent No. 624,543, granted to mall mp9, 1899. In this patented pistol the hammer was provided above its pivot and outside the frame with a hook which pulled the fulminatc-strip backward over a bridgepiece forming a permanent partof the frame, and a strip holder arranged to he struck by the trigger and operated to hold the strip against retrograde movement when the hammer was falling. The means for cooking the hammer consisted of a link which was separate from the trigger-spring, but was arranged to be pressed upwardly into operative relation with the ham- In the present improvements the fulmithe strip-feeder is connected vto the hammer below its pivot and is inclosed within the frame. There is also provided a slideor cutoff to prevent the explosion of the fulminaie from igniting" those on the strip which have not arrived at the firing-point andto protect the Works from the refuse of the exploded ful: minates, and this slide is operated by the hammer. The separate cocking-link of the patented construction 'islentirely dispensed with and the-trigger-spring is provided with a return bend or loop extending backwardly from its connection with the trigger, and this loop performs the function of the separate linkin the former coqstruction; The triggerspring also has an extension projecting forwardly beyond the notch of the hammer into minaterstrip when the trigger is pulled, so as to actaea strip-holder and prevent retrograde Serial NmjIOHiBlname are thus greatly simplified, and the trigger spring is made to perform the three func tions of, first,-holdiug the trigger; second,
cooking the hammer, and, third,acting as a strip-holder. p
The improved construction is shown in the accompanyingdrawings, wherein Figures 1 and 2 are similar sectional views with the parts in different positions, and Fig.
3 is a plan View. The frame of the pistol, including the barrel and the hammer, is made in halves '3 4,
as indicated in Fi n 3, and these halves are permanently secured together by rivets 5 6 after the working parts have been secured in place within the frame.
Thel trigger t and the hammer 7 are sulr stan'tiallythe' same in construction asin my formerpatent, except that the hammer is provided with an extension 19 in front and b'eneath its pivot for the purpose of operatirig a strip-feeder f, which consists of a light spring f, havinn its forward end connectcd'to the extension and its rear end extending backwardly within the handle and bearing on the front wall of the same, so as to hold the for-' ward end of the feeder witha light springpressure against the fulminate-strip. The 89 maiuspring for the hammer is denoted hyS. It is in all respects the same as in the-patented construction. The triggenspring sis connect ed in any suitable manner at its rear end within the hollow handle, audits forward end is connectedmo the trigger at a pointabove its pi vot in the manner indicated in the d rawings,
From its connection with the. trigger this" sprin z has a return bend or loop 5 which ex tends backwardly and is then hent'laterally, go
so as to engage the notch '97, in the heel of the hammer. It is then bent forwardly-again onthe opposite side of the hammer and forms the strip-holder e. The separate cocking-loop of my former patent is dispensed with and the loop is made integral with the trigger-spring and is given the proper bend, so as to spring automatically into the notch when the trigger is releasedfj The roll of fulminate is inelosed frame in theusual'manuelf;.but I provide a. cover-plate 8, which is arched, as shown in the driiwings, and pivoted on the rivet 6, which holds the two parts of the frame toof the hammer Q in lili ioo v uridersilj fxpigm nae-strip? and end of the slide.
