To a/ZZ whom it may con/cern:
Be it known that we, EDMUND Il. LUNKEN, residing at Denver, Arapahoe county, Oolorado, and HENRY RITTER, residing at Delhi, Hamilton county, Ohio, citizens of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Graphite Lubricators, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speciication.
Our invention relates to that class of lubricators employing a powdered lubricant, such as graphite, either dry or mixed with oil; and it has for its object the improved construction of the same whereby the simplicity and efficiency of the lubricator are increased and whereby an even discharge of the lubricant is insured.
The novelty of our invention will be here-. inafter set forth, and specically pointed out in the claims. j
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a sectional side elevation through the axis of thelubricator embodying our invention. Fig. 2 is a corresponding view at right angles to Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a side elevation in detail at the feeding-neck of the lubricator lookin g toward the right of Fig. 1.

The body of the lubricator is composed of a cup-shaped receptacle A, into the interiorly threaded top of which is screwed a cap B, having a central boss b, into which is screwed a plug-valve c, the lower end of which passes below and is intended to cover or expose one or more openings or perforations d throughl the boss or cap B and which open into a central tube e, the upper end of which is screwed into the under side of the cap and communicates with the opening into which the screwplug c enters.
The lower end of the cup A has a funnelshaped discharge f, controlled by a pl 11g-valve or stop-cock C, and it has a lower outlet-passage g, opening into a chamber h, having on opposite sides sight-feed disks fi, of glass, held in place by threaded thimbles j, screwed into the apertures which the sightfeed glasses occupy. Beneath the chamber h is an aperture Vk through the threaded neck Z of the lubricator, and by which latter it is screwed into the the cup through the channels g h lo into the cylinder, and its passage can readily be, observed through the sight-feed glasses t'. The lubricator so far described would form a very efficient lubricator for this class of work, for by regulating the admission of air through the duct or ducts d and tube e down to the bottom of the graphite just at its point of discharge an exact amount of graphite will be fed whenever a vacuum is caused beyond the outlet 7c, as occurs in an explosive-engine; but to render the lubricator more perfect in its adjustments, so that the cock O may be shut off to stop the feed at any time and then may be opened again to the exact point it previously occupied to permit the required discharge at each suction, we provide a rib or wing m, Figs. l and 3, on the cock, with which a set-screw n, engaging through the neck of the lubricator, bears in such manner that by turning the set-screw in or out it forms a regulating-stop against which the wing m strikes 'to arrest the cock at that point. Thus the screw n may be so set that the cock can only be turned a quarter-open, a half-open, or three-quarters open, or any degree of opening from its closed position to its entire open position, as will be readily understood, so that the engineer having once got the set-screw n Vset to suit the feed requisite for the duty of his engine he may shut it o at any time when the engine ceases to run, and when he starts it up again he can open the cock until it is arrested by the set-screw, and thereby know that the parts are in perfect adjustment.
Having thus fully described our invention, we claimi 1. In a lubricator, the combination of a cup for the lubricant having a funnel-shaped discharge end, a tube passing down through the cup and opening into the funnel-shaped dis- IOO charge end, a cover or cap for the cup having an orifice therethrough into said tube and a cock in the cover for regulating the size of said orce, substantially as described.
2. In a iubricator, the combination of a cup for the lubricant havinga funnel-shaped discharge end, a regulating-cock therein for the discharge of the lubricant, a sight-feed aperture below said regulating-cock, a tube pass- Io ing down through the cup and opening into the funnel-shaped discharge end, a cover or cap for the cup having au orifice therethrough into said tube and a cock in the cover for regulating the size of said orifice, substantially as described.
