To all whom, it may concern.-

Be it known that I, CARL L. NAUMANN, a citizen of the Empire of Germany, residing at Frankfort-onthe-Main, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Urinals, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved urinal for streets, parks, and other public places in which accommodation has to be provided for a large number of people, said urinal being so constructed that a considerable saving in space and a high degree of cleanliness and convenience are obtained; and the invention consists of a urinal composed of upright partition-walls arranged in azigzag line, said walls being supported by hollow pillars, in which the water-supply pipes are located, and perforated jet-pipes connected with said supply-pipes, so that the proper cleansing of the walls of the urinal is obtained. 7

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved urinal. Fig. 2 is a plan View, partly in horizontal section, of the same online 2 2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail vertical transverse section through the cornice of the urinal on line 3 3, Fig. 2, showing the arrangement of the water-supply pipes. Fig. 4 is a detail horizontal section on line 4 4, Fig. 1, showing the connection of the walls of the urinal with the supporting-pillars of the same; and Fi 5 is a plan view showing a double set of urinals made according to my improved construction.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

Referring to the drawings, A A are the upright partition-Walls of my improved urinal, which are preferably made of slabs of slate, cement, or other suitable material. They are arranged, preferably, at right anges to each other, so as to form a zigzag line in plan view, each wall extending from one angle to the next of said line. The partition-plates A are supported by upright hollow pillars B, which are arranged at each angle between the walls, there being at one side of the urinal one more pillar than at the opposite side.

The urinal can be arranged with five, seven,

nine, or more walls and pillars, according as the same is to be used by three, five, seven, or more persons. The upright partition-plates A are supported by rectangular flanges a a, which are cast integral with the pillars and to which the partition-walls are secured by suitable bolts, as shown in Fig. 4.

The bottom of the urinal is formed of slate, cement, stone, or other slabs O.

The urinal is surrounded by a sheet-metal or other casing of suitable construction,which is provided with openings at opposite ends for giving ingress and egress to and from the urinal. Two sets of urinals may be arranged parallel to each other and inclosed by one casing, as shown in Fig. 5.

A pipe cl forsupplying water to the urinals is located in the cornice A, which extends along the upper ends of the partition-walls from pillar to pillar. From the supply-pipe (:1 in the cornice a distributing-pipe d extends downwardly in each pillar, each pipe d passing through the pillar and the abutting joint of the partition-walls connected by the same, 7 5 as shown in Fig. 4, and being connected with horizontal sparger-pipes 61 Each spargerpipe d is divided into two branches, each of which serves for delivering the washing-water in jets upon one of the two partition-walls connected by the pillar from which it is supplied, as shown in the drawings. The water flows down the partition-walls and is conducted off by means of a suitable gutter, (not shown,) which is arranged in any suitable manner at the bottom of the urinal.

My improved urinal has the advantages that it takes up a considerably-smaller space than the urinals heretofore in use for public purposes, that it can be kept perfectly clean and odorless by a comparatively-small supply of water, that it can be supplied at a considerably-smaller cost than the urinals heretofore in use, and that it can be put up with great facility, for the reason that only one form of partition-wall and pillar is necessary for erecting the entire structure.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A urinal, consisting of upright partition-- 10 the supply-pipe in the cornice and the inner ends of the sparge-pipes, substantially as set forth.
