TO ALLWI-IOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, D. S. FISHER, of Cedar Spring, in the county of Harrison, and State of Indiana, have invented a new and improved Plough; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which wille'nable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

This invention relates to a new and improved plough of that kind designed to be attached or applied to a frame mounted on wheels, and to consist of one or more ploughs.

The invention consists in a novel construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter fully shown and described, whereby the ploughs are placed under the complete control of the operator or driver. In the'accompanying sheet of drawings- Figure 1 is a side sectional view of my invention taken in the line :0 2;, fig. 2.

The plough attachment is secured to aV-shaped frame mounted on wheels, and is shown in red in the drawings. The parts pertaining to the plough mechanism are shown in black, and consist of two parallel plates or boards A A, placed one above the other, and secured at a suitable distance apart by uprights a. The upper plate or board A having arms 6 at its ends which extend beyond the ends of the lower plate or board A, and are secured by bolts 0 to the frame, which is shown in red. At the centre of the upper board A there is firmly secured an upright post, B, to which two levers O D are secured by a fulcrum-pin, (Z, and E F are two vertical bars, the upper parts of which passloosely through the plates or boards A A, and are allowed to slide freely up and downtherein, their lowest point of descent being determined by a pin, c, one passing transversely through each bar, (see fig. 1.) The bar E is-in advance of the bar F, and rather to the right of it, but a plough, G, is shown, attached to the rear bar F only, that being suflicient, as when two or more ploughs are used they are all arrangedin precisely the same way, a bar or standard being of course used with each plough. Thebar F has a horizontal arm, H, framed into it just below the lower plate or board A, and to the outer end of said arm there is attached a pendant, I, in which a rotary coulter, J, is secured, said coulter being in front of the point of the share of plough G, and in line with its land-side. The coulter J is constructed of thin sheet steel or other suitablemetal, having radial ribs a attached at both sides, (see figs. 1 and These ribs a stiffen the coulter and insure; its retention in the earth. The upper end of the bar F is connected by a cord or. chain, with the lever C, said cord or chain passing over a pulley, 9, attached to the post. To the under side of the upper plate or board A there is attached a spring-catch, J which engages with the bar F, and keeps the plough down to its work.. This spring-catch is connected by a chain or cord, 7;, with the lever C, so that when said lever is actuated the spring-catch will be disengaged from the bar F, and the bar F and plough G will be raised by the cord or chain f.

I design in practice to have the bar E connected to the lever D in the same way, and said bar also provided with a spring-catch connected with said lever. If necessary or desired, a gauge-wheel may be used in connection with the ploughs, the former being ashort distance in advance of the coulters.

It will be seen from the above description that the ploughs may be readily elevated at any time when necessary in order to pass over obstructions. If necessaryor desired, the coulter pendant I may be arranged or applied in such a manner as to admit of the coulter being adjusted higher or lower, as may be required.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. The rising and falling or adjustable plough-bars E F one or more, arranged with a lever or levers C D, and having rotary coulters J attached, all arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. The spring-catches J one or more, arranged with the bars E F, and levers G D, substantially as and for the purpose specified. i

3. Providing the coulter J with radial ribs a substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
