WHEAT-DRILL.
@the Srlgrhule nimmt tu in ilps Enters what mit mating part nf its same.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, D. S. FISHER, of Cedar Spring, in the county of Harrison, and State of Indiana, have invented a new and improved Wheat-Drill; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in' the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to a new and improved drill for drilling in wheat and other grain.
The invention consists in the employment or use of a rotary shaft provided with pins, in connection with a reciprocating seed-distributing slide; all arranged to operate in the manner substantially as hereinafter fully shown and described. In the accompanying sheet of drawings- Figure I is a side sectional view of my invention, taken in the Linex x, iig. 2.
Figure 2, a plan or topview of the same.

The parts comprising my invention are shown in black, and it is bolted to a frame mounted on wheels, and which is shown in rcd'outlinc.
A is a seed-box of oblong form,l which is bolted on the frame shown in red in a transverse position. This box A has ashaft, I3, fitted longitudinally within it,'said shaft having' pins aradially attached, and rotated by 'means of a chain or belt from the axle of the front wheel of the frame on which the seed-box is secured, as shown in red in iig. 2. This chain or belt passes around a pulley, C, on the shaft B, said pulley being enclosed between two partitions,b I), as shown in iig. 2.' In the lower part oi' the' box A there is placed a perforated board, C', the perforations being of funnel form as shown at elf in iig. il,V and underneath this board C there is placed a reciprocating slide, D, provided with openings d, as also shown in fig. 1. The bottom of the box A is also perforated with holes e, and an elastic tube,f, is secured over each hole, said tubes fbeing fitted in metallic tubes E which have arms g extending from 4their rear sides. The'arms g are pivoted between pendent ears L, attached to the under side ofthe seed-box, and the rear end of cach arm is pivoted to a vertical har, F. These bars F extend up through guides hX,- attached to the rear side of the box A, the bars being perforated to receive wooden pins z' underneath the guides. These pins z' keep the tubes E in proper working position, and in the eveut of a tube coming,` in contact with any obstruction, the wooden pinsj, which hold it, will break and allow the tube to be forced back so that it may clear ,the obstruction. The slide D extends through one lend of the box A, and has an arm, j, projecting from it at right angles, said arm having a rod, G, attached which passes along in front of the box A, and has a notch, c,'made in it for a cam, H, to work in. This cam H is formed of a wheel, the axis 'of which is in a frame, I, attached to the front of -the box A, said wheel having bevellcd projections r at each side of it to act against the sides ot the notch k, the projections at one side of the wheel being inline with the spaces between the projections at the opposite side, as shown in iig. 2. By this means a positive reciprocating movement is given the slide D, springs being avoided, and the seed discharged from the box A into the tube The rotating shaft B, with its pins a, prevents the seed from clogging 4 or choking in the box A.
Having thus described my invention, claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The rotating shaft B, provided with the pins a, in combination with the perforated board C, and the reciprocating slide I), operated by the cam I-I, all arranged substantially in the manner as and for the purpose set forth.
