SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 648,269, dated April 24, 1900.

To all whom it 77216101 concern.-
Be it known that I, ROBERT T; LAMB, of Walls, (Alpika post-office,) in the county of De Soto and State of Mississippi, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Storage Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is in the nature of a storagehouse with elevating apparatus and revolving chute for quickly and economically un loading and storing in suitable bins seed-cotton, cotton-seed, grain, or any similar kind of material and also quickly and economically unloading said bins and carrying their contents to the gin-house or other desired point and it consistsin the peculiar construction and arrangement of the storage-house, the revolving chute, and carrying devices, as will be hereinafter fully described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the storagehouse. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the bins with the roof and chute removed. Fig. 3 is a vertical section on line 3 3 of Fig. 2; and Figs. 4 and 5 are enlarged details of the upper and lower ends, respectively, of the revolving chute.
Ais the storage-house, which is of the roundhouse type, being built either in the octagonal form, as shown, or hexagonal or any other polygonal shape or even in a perfect circle. This house is subdivided (see Fig. 2) by radial partitions into any desired number of bins 0, each of which may have an external window, while in the center there is reserved a central hallway B with a passage-way Z7 leading to a door opening outside the house. In the middle of the central hall there is in the floor a central opening d, Fig. 2, communicating with a trunk or pipe d, Fig. 3, running to the gin-house or point to which the contents of the bins are to be taken. For putting this opening cl and trunk 61' in communication with the bins a movable telescopic pipe D is employed.
The upper part of the roundhouse is conical and surmounted by a cupola A, in which is located a separating-box e, which on one side communicates witha suction-tube h, that is carried down to the level of the loaded wagons, whose contents are to be transferred to the bins, and on the other side of the sepa rator e is a suction-pipe h, leading down into the engine-house E, in which a revolving fan is located, whose suction side is connected to the pipe h and draws the seed-cotton from the wagons up the pipe h to the separator e, where its further passage is intercepted by a screen and the materials allowed to drop into the storage-house. To properly distribute such materials to any one of the bins, a central vertical standard 1' is erected upon suitable framework over the chamber B, and in its upper end is fixed a vertical pivot-bearing f, Fig. 4, upon which is stepped the upper end of a chute a. This chute is an open trough which at its upper end extends entirely above and beyond the axial pivot and is disconnected from the devices above. This allows the material to fall into the chute directly over the pivot, no matter what its position may be, and avoids all swiveling pipe joints at this point and vibration of the trough. The lower end of this chute (see Fig. 5) is mounted upon and attached to trolley-wheels g, which ride upon a circular track-rail 9', running entirely around the house above the bins and supported upon the partitions of the same and also serving as a lateral brace to these partitions. As the seed-cotton or other material falls from the separator c it drops onto the chute a and is discharged into any one of the series of bins, the pivotal support and track-rails for the chute permitting it to be shifted to any radial position above the bins, so as to fill any one of them or all of them in succession.
The object of this invention is to quickly and cheaply unload and distribute materials of any kind into bins. This elevating sys tem is independent of the gin-house elevating system, and the motive power is a gasolene-engine operating the fan, which enables me to unload seed-cotton or other materials by suction when the gin is not running. When the gin is running, it enables me to unload two wagons at once, for while the cotton from a Wagon at the ginis being unloaded and ginned another is being unloaded into the bins in the storage-house, thereby enabling the user to let his customers off quickly.
If desired, the cotton-elevating system in the storage-house may be run by means of a shaft driven by the engine that runs the gin home machinery, in which case the gasoleneengine would not be required.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is I i 1. A storage apparatus comprising-a roundhouse radially divided by partitions, in combination with a circular track mounted on top of these partitions and bracing the same lat-c 3. A storage apparatus comprising a roundhouse with radially arranged bins, and a central hall with passage-way leading to the exterior and an opening through the floor in the central hall leading to a subjacent conduit, and an adjustable pipe or conduit connecting with the opening in the floor and adjustable to any one of the bins substantially as and' for the purpose described.
4:. A storage apparatus comprising a roundhouse with radial bins,'central hall with passage-way to the exterior, a vertical standard arranged centrally above the central hall, an inclined chute pivoted at its upper end upon said standard, a circular track arranged above the bins and supporting the lower end of the inclined chute, and an elevating device discharging into the upper-end of the chute substantially as described.
