IMPROVEMENT IN MANURE-DISTRIBUTOR.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, H. S. PALMER, of Norvell, Jackson county, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Sowing Manures': and I declare the following to be a full, true, and exact description of the same, reference'being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of these specifications, and the letters of reference'marked thereon.
Figure 1 represents a'plan view of the machine.
Figure 2 represents a side view of the same.
Letter A represents the box of the machine into which the lime, plaster, bone-dust, or other manure is placed for the purpose of being sowed broadcast over the field. Attached to the rear side of the boxA are two metallic hooks, B B, for the purpose of suspending and supporting the box while attached to the wagon or cart. Letters D D represent two braces, the lower ends of which are secured to the rear side of the box A by the rod C so as to allow them a reciprocating motion, while the upper ends come in contact with the lower sideof the wagon box immediately back ofthe axle-tree. These braces areprovided for thepurpose' of steadyiug the box A, and to prevent it from swaying backwards and forwards. To givethe braces greater strengthand security the cross-tie E is provided, which passes through both braces, thus forming them firmly and securely together. In order to prevent the braces D D from slipping from theirplaces under the wagon box, the strap or chain F is added, which passes round the axle-tree and through thecross-tie E; it is then drawn tight, and the braces are firmly held, and the box is prevented from either swaying or jarring when the vehicle to which it is attached is set in-motion. Attached to the bottomlof the box Ais the frame or board G, which is so hinged to the bottomas to allow it an upward and downward stroke when .the wagon is in motion. Letter H represents a cam pulley, which is attached to the same side of the box A as the braces D D, and is used for the purpose of communicating the up and downward stroke. to the hinged board G by means of the arm or'rod I, the upper end of which bears against the cam pulley, while the lower one is attachcdto the board G. As soon as the pulley is set in motion, the arm I is pressed back from the box, as shown in fig, 1, and then suddenly released, which causes it to fly back, thussetting the board G in motion. Attached tothe board G is a series of wires which work through the slot in the bottom of box These wires or teeth J may be set in an angular manner or made serpentine, and are used to force the manure through the slot, from whence it falls to the earth. The advantages of my machine are, it can be attached to any kind of a vehicle, or can be madewith wheels of its own. The discharge of the manure can be regulated at pleasure, and will sow one kind ofa manure almost as well as another.
Having thus described my invention, what/I claim, anddesire to secure by Letters Iatent,is
1. The cam pulley H, the arm I, and the hinged board or frame Gr, when constructed and operating in the manner and for the purpose as herein specified,
2. The cam pulley H in combination with the arm I, when so constructed that the pulley can be moved nearer to or further from the fulcrum, whereby the discharge may be regulated by altering the stroke of the teeth J.
