@C ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: i
Be it known that I, GUILDON Gr. WOLEE, ofthe city of Troy, in the county of Rensselaer, and Stateof New -I Yorin-have invented a-new and improved Wood-Burner and I do hereby declare that thefollowing is afull, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being hereby had to the accompanying drawings, which form andmake a part of this specification.
Like letters representand refer to like or corresponding parts. Figure 1 is a perspective view 'of a stove containing my said improvements, more fully hereinafter described and set forth. i i .v
Figure 2 is a section through the dotted lines A B, shown at fig. 5, showing the interior construction of the s'tove, and also showing the direction of the draught, when the dampcr'C is closed, by means of the arrows, eachl f' being more fu'lly hereinafter described and set forth. v i v Figure-3 is also a sectional view through the dott-cd lines C D, showing one of the front columns or dues A. and one of thc back columns or dues B, also showing thedamper C, each being more flly hereinafter described and-'set forth. f.
Figure 4 is also a.' section through the dotted lines E F, (red letters, iig. 5,) showing the two back dues or' columns B B, and also the bottom ilue or chamber D, and the exit pipe F, l'
Figure 5 is a top view of a .stove containing my improvements, the dotted lines shown thereon indicating the points where the sections are cut, heretofore described and shown a't figs. 2, 3, and4.-
Thennture of my said invention 'and improvements consists in the employment of the front descending dues or columns A A, and the back upward lues or columns B B, operating in the manner andby the r'neansshb'- stantially as hereinafter fully described-and set' forth. It also consists in dividing the upper annular ue or chamber H by means of the partition K or its equivalent, for the purpose ofclosingv the entrance to the exit pipe F when'it is ds'siredto have a circuitous draught, substantially as hcreinafter more fully described and set forth.
To enable others skilled in the art to which'my invention relates to make and use the same, I will here proceed to describe the construction and operation of the same, which is as follows, to wit: I
Y The fronti andA back dues or columns A A and B B connect vand. open into the annular chamber'H st the top, andl at the bottom open into the ue Orchamber D. The said ues may be of any desired shape, size, orcapacity desired, and 'there may be any number of them deemed best. Acrossv the back part of the upper' annular chamber H I' construct a partition, K, which prevents the heat and products of combirstionfrom passing down the back fines B B, orinto the exit pipe F, when the damper() is closed, substantially as hereinafter described. The fuel to be used is p'ut in the stove at the door I, and the damper C being open, the products of combustion pass directly intoithe chimney through the exit pipe F. After the lire 'issta'rted'the damper G is closed, and in this position the heat or products of combustion pass down the front descending dues A A, und linto the due or chamber D, thence upward through the back liiues B B, and into the chimney through: the exit pipevF, as aforesaid. By this arrangement I am enabled to secure a greater amount of radiating surface, thereby attaining more heat from the same amount of fue] than has heretofore' been donein stoves ofthis character.
Having thus described theA nature ofv my said invention and improvements, what I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States' of America, is- 1. I claim the employment of the chamber H, divided by means of the partition K, containingthe movable damper C, in combination-with thc rear or back columnues B, bymcans of which the direct and circuitous draught is had, in the manner substantially as'herein described and set forth.
2. I claim the broad-bottom ilue D, in combination with the front column dues A, and with the rear or buck' column iiues B, each being arranged in the manner substantially as herein described and set forth. l In testimony whereof I have'hereunto set my hand this 17th day of October, A. D. 1866.v GURDONv G. WOLFE.
