UNITED STATES ATnNT OFFICE.
PAUL MIILBOCK, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
MACHINE FOR FINISHING AND SHAPING CIGARS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 645,180, dated March 13, 1900. Application iled July 29,1898. Serial No. 687,234. (No model.)
[0 ZZZ whom, it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, PAUL MHLBOQK, a subject of the King of Prussia, Emperor of Germany, residing at Berlin, in the Kingdom of Prussia, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Finishing and Shaping Cigars, (for which I have applied for a patent in Germany, dated June 22, 1893,) of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a machine for shaping, cutting, and finishing cigars by the' assistance of which cigars of different forms and lengths can be made in the simplest manner possible.
On the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of the machine. Fig. 2 is a front elevation, and Fig. 3 represents the cutting device in section. I
On both ends of an axle fitted in bearings on the frame a. of the machine a lever Z1 is fastened. At the back of the frame ay a plate f is arranged, which is provided with a depression. In this depression a cigar-bunch CZ, upon which a Wrapper is to be placed, is shown on an apron o, which is held fast at the back and at the front of the frame a by meansof rails and clamping-screws.
The placing of the wrapper upon the cigarbunch is effected principally by means of the roller fm. and apron o. This roller m is fitted on a spindle the ends of which turn in the outer ends of the levers b. The form of the roller on, which is exchangeable, over which the apron 0 passes, depends upon the form of the cigar-bunch CZ, which sometimes necessitates that the plate f be inclined, for which reason it is, as above mentioned, adjustably arranged. To each of the levers b an arm h is arranged, and a lever c is fitted which can slide in the slot of the frame CZ. The free ends of the lever c carry an axle n, upon which a roller having knives q is fitted. The latter can be adjusted according to the length of the cigar-bunch.
The operation of the machine is as follows: Upon the levers b moving out of the position Z, Fig. 1, into the positions ZZ and ZZZ the apron o, passing around the roller m, schematically lshown as a line in Fig. 1, raises the cigar-bunch out of the depression of the rollerplate f and rolls it upon the leaf, which is then by the continuance of the motion Wrapped around the bunch CZ. During the motion of the levers b into the positions Z Z and Z Z Z the levers o, carrying the axle n, slide in the guide i, and at their highest position Z Z arrive close behind the end of the plate f. From the moment when the cigar-bunch CZ leaves the plate f this axle n of the roller upon them serves as guide for the bunch d, inasmuch as the lever arrives between said roller and the roller m. The latter can be of any desired form, according to the shape and size of the cigars to be made.
Having described my invention, I claim- In a machine for finishing cigars, the combination of the pair of levers b, the shapingroller m carried thereby, the plate f and the apron thereon which is adapted to be rolled over the bunch by roller m, the levers c pivoted to levers b and carrying at their free ends a shaft provided with knives, said shaft being guided in an inverted-U-shaped direction for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
PAUL MHLBocK.
