TO ALL WHOM 1Tv MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that 1, E. B. ANDREWS, of ,Osborn Hollow, county iof Broome, and State of New York, have invented a. new and useful improved Organ Pipe; and-1 do hereby declare that the following is a i'ull, clear, and exact description of the same, which will enable others skilled in the nrt to malle and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to so construct the pipe that its tone cannot divide from one key to another, whether the pressure upon the bellows be more or less. 1n the accompanying plate of drawings my improved organ pipe is illustrated- Figure 1 being a View of the front side of the pipe; and
Figure 2 a central vertical section taken in the plane of the line a: zu, iig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
in the drawings, represents the body or tube portion of the pipe. B, the throat, which is on the outside of the pipe-tube A, at one end of the seme. The pipe-tube is open nt both its ends, with its lower end stoppezl by the tuning plug or stopper C inserted in such end. D, the wind-hole of the pipe-tube, which is placed at the upper end of the throat B, the wind passing through the throat, striking against the upper edge a ofthe windhole, which edge is hevelled inward.
By constructing the pipe in the manner above explained, with the throat outside and the tuning plug back of the throat, the tone produced by the pipe will not divide, whether the pressure upon the bellows is more or less, an advantage of the utmost importance. The edge c of the tuning plug, which is at the wind-hole, is bevelled, as shown in fig. 2 of the drawings; and in the use of the pipe it is found desirable to split the tuning plug in the direction of its length at und through the red line, shown in lig. 2 ofthe drawings, inrorder dto allow the tuning plug to be adjusted without disturbing the adjustment of the bevelled edge c with regard to the wind-hole.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An organ pipe, having its throat B upon the outside, with .the tuning plug C back of the throat,- substantially as and for the purpose described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this day of 1866.
E. B. ANDREWS.
