SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 643,870, dated February 20, 1900.
Application filed May 13, 1899- Serial No. 716,630. (No model.)
T0 to whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT C. GLASSOO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Anderson, in the county of Madison and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fence-Posts; and I do declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in fence-posts, and more particularly to that class employed in connection with woven and other forms of wire fences; and the object is to provide a simple, inexpensive, and durable device of this character.
To this end the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the several elements of the device, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings the same reference characters indicate the same parts of the invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved fence-post. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a similar view on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5is a section of a modified form of post. Fig. 6 shows another form of the post, and Fig. 7 a cross-section of the same.
1 1 denote counterpart members comprising two strips of steel of suitable length, thickness, and width and curved orconcaved to give them the maximum strength. The lower ends of the members are turned outwardly to form the feet 2 2, which are connected by a brace 3, as shown, with the concave faces of the members facing each other.
4 denotes a cylindrical block of wood rounded at its upper end and formed with the shoulders 5 5 to conform to the size and shape of the upper parallel ends of the members 1 1, between which it is secured by the transverse bolt 6, and it is also providedwith an axial slot 7 to receive the horizontal fence-wires A A, which are rigidly clamped between the parallel walls of the block by the bolt 6. A second or lower orifice (shown in dotted lines) is also formed in the block 4, so that it may be ele- -and lower ends are stapled to the blocks 4 and 8, respectively, while a second stay-wire 12, having a loop 13 to receive the fence-wire O, has its upper end stapled to the block 8 and its lower end twisted around a transverse brace-wire 14, fixed in the lower portion of the post.
The surface of the ground is denoted by the waving lines D D.
A post thus constructed may be made of any length to conform to the height at which it is desired to build the fence.

It will of course be understood that various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A composite fence -post, comprising the counterpart concave converging members 1 1, the conical block 4, formed with the annular shoulders 5 5, and the axial longitudinal slot 7, to receive the fence-wires and means for securing said members, block and fencewires together, substantially as shown and described.
