Be it known that I, JOSEPH L. BANGLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Norfolk, in the county of Norfolk and State of Virginia, have invented a new and useful Printing Device for Paper-Roll Holders, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to improvements in printing devices for paper-roll holders. to The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of printing devices for paper-roll holders and to provide an exceedingly simple and inexpensive device adapted to be readily applied to any ordinary paperroll holder and capable of ready adjustment to arrange it in proper position for printing advertising or other matter on the paper as it is unreeled for use.

The arms, which extend upward from the sides of the frame, loosely receive the journals of the inking-roll, which is held in engagement with the printing-roll by gravity. In order to enable the printing device to be readily mounted on any ordinary paper-roll holder, as illustrated in Fig. 3 of the acoompanying drawings, in position to print an ad- .Vertisement or other matter on the paper as it is unreeled, it is provided with a pair of adjustable clamps 14, mounted on the con- The clamps, which are substantially U-shaped, are arranged to straddle and engage the up per edge of the blade 19 of the paper roll holder 20, and they are fastened to the same by clamping-screws 15, mounted on the outer 7 5 sides of the clamps in threaded openings of the same. The clamps are provided with arms 16, having longitudinal slots 17, and disposed transversely of the connecting-bar 3, being secured to the same by bolts 18 or other suitable fastening devices.

The fastening devices 18, which pass through the slots of the arms of the clamps, enable the latter to be adjusted to and from the supporting-frame in order to position the 8 5 inking device, so that the type will make a clear impression on the paper of a roll as it is unreeled. The arms of the clamps are designed to be constructed of brass or other suitable material which is pliable and adapted to 0 enable the device to be set at an angle. By bending the arms and by adjusting them on the supporting-frame the inking device may be readily placed in position for printing properly on a roll of paper. As it is mounted on the knife or blade, it adjusts itself automat ically with the same and approaches the center of the roll as the paper is consumed, so that it will properly engage the paper at all times until the same is entirely consumed. The invention has the following advantages: The inking device, which is exceed ingly simple and inexpensive in construction, is adapted to be readily applied to the blade of a paper-roll holder, and itis capable of being quickly positioned to print properly on the paper as it isunreeled. The device dispenses with springs, as the inking-roll is held in engagement with the printing-roll by gravity, and the clamps are capable of adjustment on the connecting-bar of the frame and may be also bent in order to set the device properly. After the device is once adjusted to a paper-roll holder it will operate automaticallyand give perfect impressions until the entire roll of paper is consumed. The inkingroll is removably mounted in the slots of the arms of the frame and may be readily detached to supply the pad with ink.

Changes in the form, proportion, size, and the minor details of construction within the scope of the appended claims may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.

What I claim is 1. A device of the class described comprising a supporting-frame, inking and printing rolls, and a pair of clamps arranged to engage the knife of a paper-roll holder and provided with arms detachably secured to the supporting-frame and capable of adjustment thereon, substantiallyas and for the purpose described.

2. A device of the class described comprising a supporting-frame, printing and inking rolls, clamps arranged to engage the blade or knife of a paper-roll holder and provided with pliable arms having longitudinal slots and adapted to be deflected by bending, and fastening devices passing through the slots and securing the clamps to the supporting-frame, substantially as described.

3. A device of the class described comprising a frame provided With arms having slots, a printing-roll journaled in the frame, an inking-roll having journals loosely arranged in the slots, whereby the said inking-roll is adapted to rest upon the printing-roll, a pair of clamps arranged to engage the blade or knife of a paper-roll holder and provided with arms, and means for adjustably securing the arms to the supporting-frame, substantially as described.

4. The combination with a paper-roll holder, of a supporting-frame provided at the front with a depending clamp, adjustably engaging the knife of the paper-roll holder, said supporting-frame extending inward from the said knife over the roll of paper, and the printing and inking rolls mounted in the supportingframe, the printing-roll being in contact with the paper, substantially as and for the purpose described.
